Polk experts: I would like to build a home theater. Is this a good deal?

4 RT800i
1 cs400i center
1 psw250
1 psw450

All for $400? Should I do it? What to look for when/if I go see them? Thanks!

    that 7 items
    approximately $ 57.11 per item

I'd say that is pretty good.

look for condition, repair, damage, original materials, etc,,,

That's an excellent system. At that price, even if you have to replace a driver or two, it's more than worth it. The center sold for almost $500 ALONE.

Like jvc said, 'look for condition, repair, damage, original materials, etc'. Make sure you listen to them too. If all checks out OK then grab 'em. Here's a link to info on the towers:

Is there anyway to get an approximate value on these components? I feel like I'm getting ripped off for some reason.

Yes, look and see if they're damaged. Push the cones in SLOWLY and GENTLY, if it moves without scratching or being stuck, should be good.

$400 is VERY good for that setup...VERY good. You can always ask to have it hooked up too.

Lasareath, I'm not trying to be a smartass . I just worry with a low price like that. I was just wondering if anyone had access to some type of audio bluebookish thing. I tried ebay completed listings but nothing really useful at all came up. I'm also very worried that the speakers are damaged. I'll listen to them all and push in the cones slowly and gently. Are these susceptible to foam rot?? Just being cautious is all.

I've picked up a set of the rt800's for my secondary setup, and a rt800i setup for my parents. Both were around $400 of craigslist for the entire 5.1 setup and i've had great results with both systems.

there is always a risk with used gear, those particular speakers had rubber surrounds, so rot = not an issue.

your getting a good deal even if they are in rough shape aesthetically....as long as they work. Demo them, if he cant hook them up, bring a reciever or something to hook them up to (2 at a time if a stereo reciever obviously)

if they work, your golden at that price

I'd suggest looking up each of those items separately on ebay ( and look at completed listings ) and do a comparison.

also - here's a setup i saw on craigslist in baltimore. I don't know how these individual pairs / center / sub compare, but this looks like a pretty good deal too.

I ended up not buying them because the guy smokes around them all day. I know the deal was good, but I'm allergic to smoke.
