In general, they are worth what someone is willing to pay. I have two pairs of 5's that I picked up for $40 and $50 locally.

    thanks
    they were original
    MSRP:
    184.95 each (US)¹

and that could be 25 years old
think about inflation and what they would be worth in todays' dollars

don't forget about depreciation also !!!

so depending on the condition ( real oak veneer is a good thing nicer imo than vinyl )
    and local demand.

    prices can widely range.

reported threads about a find from Goodwill for a couple of dollars
to full blown unique mods running into the hundreds of dollars.

but you can choose what you feel they are worth and what it would
    possible cost to replace

It is worth most to he who keeps it and uses it.
He who wants to sell it usually lets it go for very cheap, as it usually doesn't mean much to them.

confucius say - check ebay completed list --- http://completed.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=polk+monitor+5&_sacat=0&LH_Complete=1&_odkw=polk+monitor+5jr&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313 (search term = polk monitor 5)

Add up sum of completed sales --- divide by number of completed sales to attain average sale price --- post on local craigslist --- let simmer till sold

    p.s. (answer is $66.60)
Yamaha RX-V2700, EMI 711As (front), RCA K-16 (rear), Magnavox Console (Center & TV Stand), Sony SMP-N200 media streamer, Dual 1249 TT =--- Sharp Aquas 60" LCD tellie

I agree with this method, although I would take into account shipping costs. I have only found one set of Monitor's pop up on Craigslist in my local area, everything else I find is at least an hour or so drive away, and in an Escalade, that means about $30 worth of gas easy. I would always pop a few dollars on the asking price on Craigslist. If anyone you are selling to says something about it, tell them that they don't have to pay ebay shipping, they get to hear the speakers before buying, and most importantly, the speakers won't be damaged in shipping.

Just as an example, the cheapest set on that ebay listing went for $38.50, but the shipping was $46.16 on them. That meant someone thought they were worth $95.
