The story of Aron Ralston the hiker who had to cut his arm off after getting stuck in a canyon in Utah.
Went and saw this last night at the one theater in Denver showing it. Amazing film and definitely lives up to the positive reviews. I'll say that the amputation is about the most intense scene I have ever seen in a movie.
Anyone else catch this one yet?

interesting...i saw that guy's documentary it was pretty intense.

I read the book he wrote "Between a Rock and a Hard Place", and came away with mixed emotions about the guy. I think me being born and raised in Colorado, and coming across a lot of people like Aron made me a little jaded. What I mean by that is a lot of people move to Colorado and become "outdoors men", while constantly pushing the limits of their abilities, but start ignoring that chance and or mother nature will kill you if you do not start taking personal responsibility not only for yourself but for the people around you. The man nearly killed a group of his friends by skiing in an area that was in a severe avalanche risk, and ignoring the people around him that asked him not to do it. There are a few other stories in his book like that situation that left me really shaking my head. (He ultimately lost those friendships because of his stupidity)
First off the guy created the ultimate cardinal sin by doing something like this and not letting anyone of his loved ones know his whereabouts. Granted in the book he recognized this, and repeatedly regretted not informing anyone.
But what got to me was his pure cockyness/arrogance, and ultimate anger for losing his arm, and him even lashing out at his family over this. While he said that losing his arm will never stop him from doing what he wants, I still really wonder if he has really learned how his actions affect the people around him. Aron Ralston IMHO is a thrill seeker that cheated death, and still does not recognize the fact that he has been given a wonderful second chance at life.
THAT being said, I am very excited to see this film. The story itself of what he did, and how he had tried ingenious ways to get him self free was pretty cool. -
I love the early reports of people actually fainting in the audience during the early screenings of the amputation scene. Can't really chalk it up to hype because Danny Boyle has gone out of his way to downplay it.
Speaking of Boyle... everything he touches turn to gold, so this should be spectacular.I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore -
^ Everyone in the theater (including myself) was squirming in their chairs. The guy in front of me was really freaking out. As I said, one of the most intense movie scenes I've witnessed.

Just watched it, fantastic film. I will say, it's not all that gory. It does get intense when his chopping at his arm but that's due to the music more than anything else. Very worth a rental.If...
Ron dislikes a film = go out and buy it.
Ron loves a film = don't even rent. -
It's not so much "gory" as... I don't know. Just feels real. It's DELIBERATE. If a movie showed a Guillotine hacking of someone's arm, and it was all bloody and disgusting, that's "gory." This is just... real.
Anyway, saw this Friday night, and liked it a lot. Though Boyle sometimes goes a little overboard with his crazy visual effects. I'm not a fan of that. It has its place, but most of the time it just screams to me "HEY YOU'RE WATCHING A MOVIE!!!!" I want to get engrossed in a movie and kind of forget that it IS a movie, if that makes sense, and when all the sudden the screen splits into 3 parts, I can't do that.
Regardless, I liked it a lot. Although avalanchefan's post above definitely made me think about it a little differently. If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -

Agree 100%, it wasn't the gore that had that much to do with it, the "realism" made it probably the most intense scene I've ever seen in a movie.
Other than not wanting to watch that scene ever again, it was a surpisingly good movie (I knew NOTHING about it). After the movie was finished, I was shocked we watched a guy basically stuck in a canyon for an hour and a half and I was in to it the whole time.AVR: H/K AVR240

I just watched this movie and I too felt it was very good. A film that leaves you 100% inspired and makes you think about your loved ones and what they mean to you and you to them. The film was well done, but I have to agree with bobman that some of the visual effects detracted from the film. Definately worth watching if you have not seen it.

Taken from a recent Audioholics reply regarding "Club Polk" and Polk speakers:
"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion."
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....
