Horns = colored/shrill, usless you're using tube amplification to soften them.

You have not heard quality horns set up properly. I feel comfortable making this statement.

Me too. The only SS I'm using in my system are mono's for the external subs. It's always tubes and horns for me.
There is one SS unit that I love on horns. GOOD gain clones sound super with horns. You might want to give that a try in the future.
I agree about quality horns set up properly will not sound harsh or colored. And like you mentioned quality horns can actually sound laid back and powerful. This is what shocked me the first time I heard Edgarhorns. Saying horns are colored and harsh is like us hornies saying all cone and domes are seriously lacking dynamics and impact.

I haven't heard any Pass Labs equipment myself, but it seems like a good answer to bad solid state from what I've heard.

    Take a hike spammer.
"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. Differentiation by numbers is for those who do not".--Nelson Pass Pass Labs XA25 | EE Avant Pre | EE Mini Max Supreme DAC | MIT Shotgun S1 | Pangea AC14SE MKII | Legend L600 | BlueSound Node 3 - Tubes add soul!
