Got new speakers, receiver okay?
So I just did a upgrade of all of my speakers... went from two R30 and a Csi25 for fronts with a Dayton SUB-120 to:
Fronts: Monitor 70 Series II (planning on bi-amping)
Center: CS2 Series II
Surrounds: Monitor 40 Series II
Sub: Dayton C1500K 15"
Hopefully it's going to sound like night and day compared to what I have now, but I'm wondering if it's too much for my receiver? I currently have a Onkyo 605.
Thanks!

Your receiver will be fine, but you might want to upgrade to something with pre-outs so you can add amplification in the future. Bi-amping is pointless. If you have a quality amplifier, one is all you need."They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Would it hurt my speakers to bi-amp the two fronts with the Onkyo 605? I know it's pointless, but I thought it'd be fun just to do it.
Also, if it's pointless to do it with the 605 why would they include the feature? Just wondering.. -
It won't hurt to try. Though many of us have. You won't cause any problems by bi-amping so try it both ways and see what you think. I've bi-amped M70s off a slightly more powerful Denon and didn't notice any real difference myself. But that doesn't mean 'you' won't.
Enjoy!

Thanks guys! Is my setup going to sound really weak since I don't have a separate amp or is it still going to sound a lot better than what I used to have?

It will sound better and you will be fine driving those without a seperate amp. I use to drive my entire main rig from a Integra DTR 5.9. It sounded good. The only thing that really changed when I added my amp is that it cleaned up the dynamics and depth of the sound. It also can go louder than my Integra (but I rarely listen at more than 50% of the volume anyway)
The Integra still sounds good by itself (its running my surrounds) but for music the fronts are much clearer on the amp and it sounds much better even at low volumes.
With that said, start with what you have and see if you really need to step up. I am building up my gear piece by piece since when I purchase a house we plan on having a dedicated Home Theater and I want to have all the pieces for that at the time of purchase."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
Awesome set up! The Monitors are a great bang for the buck.
As far as your reciever, the other posts just about sum it up. How loud do you want it? If you want 105 dB referance levels, you WILL need seperates (and different speakers). Otherwise, enjoy!Things are more like they are now than they ever will be!
