I need a gps

I had to drive up to Phoenix yesterday, it was a solo trip, and I hadn't been to that part of town before. I realized while I was trying to read my Google maps directions at 70mph that what I really need is a gps with a female voice, for those times my wife isn't there to tell me how to drive.

I'm getting old.
My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself.

Try Newegg, they have ones with lifetime free map updates and lifetime live traffic updates too. I hear Garmin is among the best, and they currently have one cheaper with the maps, and one more expensive with both (free updates, that is )

Get a smartphone that has Google Nav on it. It auto-updates itself and is portable. Not to mention all the other apps you can use...

Do you still have to update them via CD or a download? I remember having to do that each year and it was kind of an annoyance. I love nav on my Hero. Use it ALL the time.

Garmin is king and they have the best designed GPS' out there IMO.

You can't really go wrong with any of the models. Some have lifetime map updates, some have lifetime traffic (fairly useless IMO), and some have lifetime both.

I have a garmin nuvi as well, and my biggest issue with it is the lack of POI's and having to pay for updates. I end up using my phone a lot more because it's: easier to update, updated more frequently, free to update and has more poi's in general. Also, if you have 3G, you can simply google for POI's, and that pretty darn up to date.

I use the old fashioned just keep driving and looking at the sun or North star or compass until you find it method.
Google maps every now and then drops the ball, especially if you are looking for a place near a highway with many side roads, say like Fayetteville, NC and business 95
Had it on the phone when work paid for it.
Have the laptop now, but have to find a place with wi-fi to utilize.
May buy one after the next round of price drops, which should be spring time.

I have 3 of the Garmin Nuvi's, they always get me where I need to go.......and remember not to leave it in an unlocked car, lest some mutt (or possibly a neighbor) may make it their own!

    I vote for Garmin.

I would need one that constantly repeats...Do you see that car? Slow down. Why do you keep switching lanes? Do you see that traffic light/stop sign/road sign/etc...?

It's amazing that I'm ever able to get anywhere in one piece without her in the car. I've only driven about a million miles over my lifetime...

Garmin Nuvi 265. It's always gotten me to where I needed to be and it has a battery and walk mode so you can navigate from where you have to park to the address you need to be at.

Garmin 255WT is on sale at Best Buy for 100 or so. Lifetime traffic also. I just bought one upon arriving back in the USA and it works great every time. Updated the maps, firmware really easy and it has been nice. No more printing out directions.

Does anyone have a 2010 update disc for the Garmin? I'd like to borrow it.
