Ella Menope Stay

AKC Rottweiler

13 years old

The longest we have had any dog.

Very tough loss.

She seemingly waited until we came home. I went out, got both dogs after work (other is a 8 yr old yellow lab). I took notice, when she got up and stretched, she couldn't re-bend her rear legs when she walked in the house. She didn't want the biscuit we always gave upon home entry. I brushed her, warned the wife that this was probably it, and walked her outside. She laid down, grumbled a little grumble I never heard before, I told her it was ok each visit outside, and checked on her a couple times before bed, and based on body temp at 5 am, she passed right after the last time I saw her around 11:30 pm. Too, it was a day and half before we were to go to Aruba. She saw us packing too, the day before. She always knew when we were going to the beach and we took her in the past, but most of the time, did not.

It's been three weeks, and it is still hard to go out back, go to the garage or to the kennel.

Guess I am in the market for another Rottweiler. That was helped us through the loss of our black lab Sammy (sent Sammy for smokes/we only had a wireless fence back then)(we got the yellow lab Bailey - George W Bailey ). Ella is now with Sammy. Yes, we used to have Sam n Ella
Now just Bailey, and Bailey is torn, he enjoys the now being number one thing, yet you can tell he mourns Ella as he spent his 8 years with her as well.

It's always hard losing a friend. At least it sounds like she went peacefully and didn't suffer.

She had congenital heart issues and also without meds, would lose mental control of her legs.
But, we had her on meds for the past 2.5 years and she was puppy like on the meds.
She did go peacefully, but was just as broken hearted at having to go as it was losing her.
I tried uploading a pic, but she is already in the tasteful pet pics thread, page 3, a third of the way down next to the yellow lab and basset pic (basset we gave to a new home awhile back and was a stray)

sorry for your loss, I know its a tough time. I suppose the fact she is so missed and was so loved by you speaks to how her life was with you and family.

It's always hard to lose a longtime friend.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Sorry to hear it man, I am really greedy in that my cat is now 16, she is still perky like a kitten and she still comes out and hangs with me while I am doing a car install and watched movies with me and listens to music as well. I do not want her to leave me but I know at her age its coming and it hurts just thinking about that and known no cat can ever replace her. Hope you get better RIP

I'm so sorry for your loss. Everytime I read one of these type threads, I get a bit of a heart ache and go and hug my 9 year old black lab/border collie mix named Moose. I do feel your pain and wish you comfort and ease with your distress.

As far as I'm concerned loosing a beloved pet is akin to the loss of a child.

    Sorry to hear this.

    A Dog's Prayer.

Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.

Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.

Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.

When it is cold and wet, please take me inside... for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements... and I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth... though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land... for you are my god... and I am your devoted worshiper.

Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger.

And, beloved master, should the Great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest...and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands.

    --Beth Norman Harris
