Havent been on here for a while. Thought it would be a good day today as I brought home my new Rotel RSP-1570 pre-amp/surround processor and Rotel 1520 dedicated CD player. The audio/video dealer was happy ... I was happy ... everyone was happy. I was even there as they had just set up a pair of B&W 803Di's ...

I just got everything out of the boxes, pulled out my old Denon 2807 ... which will be sent to my father to replace his 15 year old Yammy receiver.

Unfortunately its near midnight, have no energy left and all I can see is a rats nest of tangled cords after having pulled them all out from my Denon. It'll have to wait until tommorow! :frown:

Ive never had seperates or a dedicate CDP before so Im hoping they will make a big enough difference that I dont regret the less then smart mis-direction of my money

A pair of LSi25s and a Rotel RMB 1080 are also in this mix. Click on my signature to see what I had prior to getting these additions.

Ill update soon, with some pics and some brief impressions.

I had a Rotel 1098 pre/pro and a RMB-1077 going to four LSi9s and a LSiC. then the acquisition bug bit me and I felt like I needed an AVR with HDMI so I sold off the whole lot and now I'm jealous of your set-up!!

I'd like to try some LSi15 though - if they sound as good as they like I'd be very impressed. I did buy some Swans that I feel sound better that the LSi9s. Also, my Velo sub is much better thatn the PSW1000 I had.

Thanks for the congratulations. Its been a long road to getting back on the audio-video ride. Went through a seperation/divorce and then decided to get rid of 75k of debt now that I was on my own before re-embarking on the quest for audio/video heaven. Let me tell you it is a lot better paying for AV equipment when you dont have to worry all the other payments you have chipping away at your pay cheque. Any how, Ill get out of the "too much information territory" and get back to the task at hand.

So I woke up at 8:30 am and finally got the system to where I can get it by about 5:30 pm. It was a full time job today assembling and disassembling everything. It wouldnt have been as bad had I had the proper length cords but analog interconnects I have arent long enough, so I switched the position of ALL of my components TWICE. I hate moving my gear because it risks scratching it and I am quite anal about my AV gear.

I love the look of the Rotel 15 series, very classy looking and minimalist. I purchased them in black. Its a nice brushed metal, no plastic here. The units are built like mini tanks, nice and sturdy. The blue led light around the power buttons are very cool ... Ill take pictures tommorow.

It might be funny to say but I was actually worried that I wouldnt find a difference in sound quality between the CDP and the PS3 CD playback. Not because I dont believe the dedicated CDP wouldnt play it better and all but I was concerned my ears werent as atuned to subtle differences in sound quality as some of your guys' ears are. Now having said that I have noted obvious sound improvements at times; when I went from the Polk RM series to the LSi series ... it was very obvious ... then it was obvious to me when I went from DVD Dolby Digital EX/Neo 6 to Bluray Dolby Digital HD .... it was very obvious again.

So I listened to 'Jack Johnson: Sleep through the Static'. I love the vocals in thsi and originally got goose bumps listening to his sad voice on my PS3 when I first acquired the CD. Playing on the Rotel 1520 proved to be a real treat. Although I dont have the audiophile vocabulary I can say the depth and richness of his voice was much improved and the seperation of the instruments was very obvious and detailed even to an amateur like myself. To confirm this I got my girlfriend to blind fold me (this setup was used for 'other' activities later ... heh heh) ... anyhow she randomly played the same song throught the PS3 or the Rotel CDP switching back and forth quickly as I plugged my ears during the change overs so as to not be prompted by the noises from the start ups. I got it each time, which was easy considering the flatness of the PS3's reproduction and lack of richness in the sound. I USED to be amongst that crowd that thought the PS3 could do everything ... and so it can do anything BUT it can not do everything WELL. That was very obvious from today. I even got my girlfriend to listen to the comparisons and she, not being a AV enthusiast got it right away and definately liked the Rotel CDP sound. Now having said all of that I wonder whether I could discern the difference from a Rotel CDP to something higher up on the Audiophile ladder. While I was in the store they were showing me some $3000 top loading CDP, not even sure what it was, and I actually wonder whether I would be able to tell a difference. I mean all the previous examples of where I noted a difference were from a quality several rungs down (Polk RM sound, DVD audio, PS3 CD playback) to many rungs up (Polk LSI sound, Bluray Dolby HD, Rotel 1520 CDP) .... but going up only one or 2 rungs I wonder I would be able to detect a difference?

Ill leave it at that. I will be enjoying the system some more tommorow and Ill actually take a few pics.

The draw of HDMI was huge a few years back. I understand why you caved for the HDMI based gear. The smaller companies like Rotel are really slow on the uptake with newer technologies. Before buying this gear I had to decide whether 3D interested my or not in the Home Theater department because obviously the 1570 pre-amp does not have 3D capabilities nor HDMI 1.4, I think it has version 1.3C. So there seems to always be trade offs. I am very happy with the decision I made thats for sure!

Heres a couple of pics. I like the classic minimalist styling. Sounds great too  Have a few other ideas for upgrade but Im trying to let these give enjoyment for as long as I can hold out for something else

The Rotel CDP and amp will be eventually put into the stand, its just that my interconnect cables are not long enough so Ill have to order some custom lengths from Signal Cable and get everything back in the TV stand.

Nice setup. I'll be looking into the 1570 when I decide to sell my 1068. More and more of my gear is hdmi. I don't mind using rca's, but going hdmi for everything is inevitable. Much less cabeling.
