Hey all,
anybody heard of or have opinions of the Canton audio systems? I may have the chance to get one "free" but I have not heard of Canton before.
Anybody had ears on these systems?

I had some plus s's any moons ago and thought they sounded fine for little speakers. It's been a long time though, not sure what they're making these days.

I recently bought a set of used Canton CT-80 tower speakers off of Craigslist for a very low price.

They sound great, especially with tubes, and the cabinets are beautiful. I am still experimenting with them.

There are a lot of Canton design features that remind me of Braun and A/D/S speakers. I have heard that there were a lot of designers and engineers in common between the those three companies.

Pass. I'd rather own an ADS for that type of sound. And the resale value is better.

Low resale can be a good thing.

(although used Cantons seem to hold their value on e-bay)

My Cantons listed for $1650 in 1989, I bought them for $100. That may have been a fluke because the guy I bought them from just wanted to sell them since he didn't need them, and his wife said get rid of them. He obviously didn't need the $100 based on his house, cars, etc.

The level of finish on these Cantons is, if anything, higher than A/D/S, and so far they sound every bit as nice if not better. Canton is still in business, A/D/S sadly not.

    I know because I own, or have owned, A/D/S L-420, L-520, L-570, L-620, L-810, L-910's

I was about to start a link asking about other members's experiences with Cantons when I saw this one, because they are something special. My advice to Club Polk members: Scoop them up if you see them.

My advice is to avoid them. It's neat that you've owned some ADS as well, cool.

    Enjoy.
