Yep! The LSi15's are staying.

As some of you might know I was auditioning a pair of LSi15's with my AAD 2001 monitors as stated in another thread. I've owned the AAD's for 5yrs & I did become rather attached to them. But I feel one has to try different things to keep this hobby fresh.

This was not a hasty decision by any stretch of the imagination. I always liked the LSi series & after a visit to Stephen's place last week he asked me if I wanted to take a pair home & give them a listen in my system. I hesitated but then said, what the hell & took him up on his offer.

Well, I must say they do sound fantastic with plenty of muscle driving them with my Rotel-RMB-1095 amp. Now there are some compromises that must be taken into account also. The AAD simply excel in the midrange & highs & do very well in the bass department with only a single 5.25in driver. There is a difference in the sound but that Vifa tweeter has really caught my ear. The tonal difference is that the 15's are more laid back & not as quick as the AAD's but I consider it just as a different presentation. And since I run a combo HT/two channel system the 15's have a more dynamic presence with movies. So I'm making the switch & I expect after a few yrs I'll be making another switch just to keep things fresh. By then the new LSiM series will have been out for awhile & just might be on my radar as a demo or used pair.

I thought you'd never replace those monitors. I think that if you had them in a 2 channel only setup the LSi15's would be back at Stephen's.

Phil, the Lsi's are excellent sounding speakers, very warm and detailed, and being driven by a fine amp like the Rotel they must sound great. Enjoy them, and thanks for giving us the chance to hear those AAD's at Polk Fest.

    Nice!!!!

Do you run your Velo's when listening to music on the AAD's and are they needed for your 15's?

    Thanks

I only wish I had the room to keep them both. Those AAD's will always bring back fond listening memories.

The Rotel is one fine amp & really lets them sing loud & clear. I'm glad you guys got a chance to listen to the AAD's at PF. They certainly have a magical quality about them.

I like running the dual Velo's with both the AAD's & the LSi15's. I think all speakers benefit greatly with quality dual subs. It's not even about the deep base, simply a more profound & dynamic presentation across the entire spectrum.

Wow I just posted in your other thread before seeing this!!! Wow Phil when I first read this I thought you had a line on an advanced set of LSiMs but on a second read it's really the old 15s. They must really be sounding special as those AADs are sooo good.

I gotta hear them in your rig! Hey when you get settled in what say we upgrade the xovers as I understand the upgrade really makes the 15's sound really, really special.

BTW if you do decide to do the upgrade . . . no skimping on the components . . . so stash some dough for the that rainy day!

Edit; you know what just crossed my mind Phil. Did you take into consideration that the AAD's were around 86 db sensitivity and I know the 15 are hogs too but maybe there is a difference in that regard that make the 15s sound so good.

The 15's are more efficient and may have a friendlier impedance curve.

Wouldn't that make the music sound different or give the illusion of sounding better Mike?

You know how when you first listen to a piece of gear that is bright or hot and at first it sounds good but after a little bit you realize it doesn't really sound good, it's just that the highs are accentuated? Could this difference between the more efficient 15s and the friendlier impedance curve give the same illusion? This is what I was alluding to in my edit above but didn't articulate it very well.

If this is the case, Phil you'd better do a lot more listening before commiting the two AADs to Stephen.

Phil if you really do decide to keep the 15s what are you going to do with the Velodynes as the 15s should have plenty of umph in the bass IIRC correctly listening to them at Quest for Sound.

Joe, this wasn't an easy decision but when the smoke cleared...I did decide to keep the 15's. Hell, they're only speakers my good man. Oh, & those Verlo's aren't going anywhere. I expect the arrival of the DSPeaker Anti-Mode 8033 this week that will take those Velo's to a whole new level. The 15's & Velo's play real nice together. The 15's really do benefit with the addidition of dual subs. I'm a believer that there aren't too many speakers out there that won't benefit from the addition of a good quality sub or two or three or four. Looks like you should be gearing up for another road trip!!

Thanks Cathy! I really am enjoying them. I must say the whole LSi line are real sleepers in the speaker ring.
