Hey guy, are you upset? You want a soda? How about some meat?

No, seriously, the really "smart" Canadians at McGill University say that if you're upset, look at meat and it'll calm you down.

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/the-hot-button/seeing-meat-calms-you-down-study-says/article1793519/
From the article:

...Next time you experience road rage or get into an argument with the boss, maybe ordering a nice, big, hunk of steak will soothe your aggression.

Contrary to expectations, a McGill University researcher has discovered that seeing meat makes people significantly less aggressive. Frank Kachanoff, who studies evolution at the university’s department of psychology, had initially thought the presence of meat would provoke bloodlust, believing the response would have helped our primate ancestors hunt. But in fact, his research showed the reverse is true.

Kachanoff recruited 82 men and asked them to punish an aide with various volumes of sound each time he made an error while sorting photos, some with pictures of meat, and others with neutral images. The researcher had anticipated participants who watched the aide sort meat photos would inflict more discomfort on him, but he was surprised when those pictures did not provoke aggressive behaviour...

That's right folks, you hear it here first. Make steak, not war!

That is probably why Canadian Forces are involved in peace keeping missions more than anything else  Now fellow Americans, you should buy some good Alberta beef, the best in the world, it will calm you down, you'll now want peace with them rather than a piece of them  All kinds of medication but steak is "anti-warmongering" and all natural too

Of course get your anger and rage out by killing and slaughtering a cow, then look at what you accomplished. Oh and then cook some up and chow down. Who wouldn't feel better?

No, read the article. Has nothing to do with killing. They say just look at meat if you are upset and you will calm down. They want you to go to the fridge, open it up and look at your meat. No cow killing necessary. Let someone else handle that.

If I had to guess why, I'd say that people are "calmed" by meat since it's a rather complete meal. Vegetarians & Vegans have to eat a much more varied diet to get all the nutrients. So basically you can live on protein & wheat or you can live on wheat & shitloads of harder-to-find plants.

I know--just summarizing the whole series of events that would allow for looking at the meat in the first place-thus alluding to the reason why it resulted in a calming effect (man's animal nature and all that). j/k anyway-I didn't read the article, just the excepts above.--

I'm going to go look at and tenderize my meat right now, I think it will calm me down

I think the article said to look at the meat not eat it. Personally I would probably be calmed by a peice of cooked meat on my plate, rather than a peice of raw meat that I'm not going to eat--I guess I should go read that article now.

Well, I'm told if you get a good rub for your meat it makes the experience much more enjoyable.

I wonder if frozen meat detracts from the calming and enjoyable nature of the meat?

My bad....looking at meat....looking at naked women would relieve some stress too, if only I could open my fridge and see that. Wait...now I know why my Dad always yelled at me when I opened the fridge. "Cloes that door ,what are you looking at ? "

You should told him "Meat, dad! I'm lookin' at your meat!"

Lookin' at nekkid women can get a bit sketchy at times. Especially if it's...like...on a security camera in a dressing room. Or if it's a stripper and your wife/gf is home and stewing about you being out. Or, like, if you get caught cruisin' **** on the Intarwebs when you should be workin'.

Eating lots of red meat may increase risk of esophageal cancer and stomach cancer, a new study published in the Oct 26, 2010 issue of American Journal Gastroenterology suggests.

The study led by Cross A.J. and colleagues of the Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics at the National Cancer Institute in Rockville, Maryland showed those whose intake of red meat was in the highest quintile were 79 percent more likely to be diagnosed with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, compared with those whose intake was in the lowest quintile.
