Just wondering if there is a significant audible difference when you have two tweeters + two drivers vs. two tweeters and only one driver? Such as the fx1000 and the fx500?

Curious in that am I missing any vital spatial effects? Anyone made the upgrade and can tell a difference?

I would say that generally, the more drivers that any given speaker has, the fuller the sound that it can produce. I did hear the f/x500's, and they sounded good, but I really liked the massive bulk of the 1000's. I don't think that you're going to ultimately *lose* anything by having the one driver, but with 2 drivers you're gonna be doubling up, which to me is a good thing. I would say that would also be true for front speakers too. I wouldn't ever buy a front speaker that just had a single driver and then a tweet in it, but that's just me......

As a surround speaker? I think you could go either way. I have the smaller version of the FXi, and it cranks out as much volume as it can in surround duty, no problems.

I have to agree with Brett tho', I sure do like a monster speaker, and that Fx1000 has hair growing on it... :)

The f/x1000 fills the room with big, effortless sound. It is a spectacular speaker and in dipole mode the HT surround effects are pretty stunning, epecially with rear surrounds in the mix.

After living with them for several months for both music and HT, I can't imagine a lesser surround in my system. There is a good reason the TOTL LSiFX has dual mids.

agreed, alot of people say, ah the fx500's or 1000's or fxi50's are good but the lesser model will do fine, Ie:rti28, fxi30,fx300, Nah... I went from 28's to 38's and love these huge speakers, Don't always discount a speakers size, their is a reason for size, Size does matter.... In speakers . If you can afford bigger, get bigger, sure the small ones can hang, but not like a 6 incher, or better yet, dual drivers...

besides, you have 6inchers in your mains usually speaking, why not have a matching driver in the surrounds?

I agree in the case of the Fx1000, but between the FXi30 and FXi50 their is nary a difference. I checked them both out, inhouse, and didn't find an advantage enough for me to spend the extra money. I am trying, like all people to get the most for my money.

Do I like big speakers? Of course, thats just plain being an American :)

Ok maybe not much difference., between 30 and 50fxi, But bigger looks cooler right? who cares of the sound, we know it will sound good.. it all comes down to room size, any small to mid size room can get along with the smaller drivered speakers, anything bigger requires bigger mass.. big drivers i think... Sure sure ok ok any speaker will play pretty loud if its a quality built speaker, But its the drive, the impact, the bass... I had some jensen indoor/outdoor speakers i bought, onsale for 8.99 at CC.. sure they could get loud, but with authority??? NO

Room size was one thing that I considered also, good point. I have a average large room, but not big enough to not make a pair of Fx1000's not look like a monolith from 2001 Space Odyssey.

i have FX/300i for rears..and I think they do a great job as rears in my small room. Would larger (FX/1000i's) help, yeah probably.. but the cost back two or three yrs ago.. was a huge difference.

How do the 300i's compare as rears to say a RT25 or RT28? I know the difference is the bi/di pole, but in terms of sound quality.. is there much?
