So.... I stuck an SL-2000 in my CS-350LS so it would better match the other vintage Polks in my HT setup (RTA-12C fronts and Monitor 5B surrounds), and I gotta tell ya, it sounds damn good. It's not gonna blow up or nothin' is it?

If I don't hear from you guys that there is some dangerous impedence matching problem or something, then I'm going to modify the cabinet of the 350 to better accept the larger sl2000 (or RDO).

Some of you other guys using the 350 with vintage Polks should give this a whirl; it really sounds great.

No. But it will not be difficult to make it very snug and clean looking.

I am going to continue listening tonight, and if I continue to like what I hear, I will make a step-by-step thread w/ photos on modding the cabinet.

    Keep us updated please.

    I have a 350 with RTA15's in a surround system.

Looking forward to pics and a review.

After listening for a few days to both music and movies, it is blatantly apparent that the cs-350ls with an sl-2000 in it matches my system much better than the stock 350 w/ the sl-6501 tri-lam tweet. If you have RD0's in your fronts and surrounds, then the stock 6501 may blend in better than it does with the brighter sl-2000's.

Attached are pics of the slight cablinet modification that I made to fit the larger sl-2000.

*I don't know anything about the crossover differences or impedence differences, so proceed at your own risk.*

The first two pics are with the sl-2000 in, but before the modification to the cabinet. I just sat it as far as it would go in the tweeter opening, and then used two screws to hold it in place. Like this it sticks out too far to put the grill on without smashing into the dome of the tweet, but it requires almost zero modding (just the two screw holes), and will let you listen before you decide to mod the cabinet.

The tweeter hole in the 350 is not a cirlce; it has 3 "mounds" of wood where the 3 screws go so that they have more meat to hang onto. Luckilly, you only need to remove one of these mounds, the top one, to accomodate the sl-2000. You could remove any of the 3, but I suggest the top one because 1) it keeps the tweet symmetrical, and 2) the tweet will be mounted higher, allowing the bottom of the sl-2000's plastic frame to fit above the pertruding port rims. It's good that you only need to remove one mound because if you want to return the speaker to stock, the 6501 will still have the bottom two screw holes to hold it in place.

You only need to remove enough material to get the top to look like where the circle would have been if the mounds weren't there. I used a file to remove most of the mound, and then sand paper to smooth it out. Be prepared to deal with dust. You also must take a chunk out on both sides of the opening to fit the wires/terminals of the tweet.

Connect the wires, pop in the tweet, and screw it into the cabinet. I only used two screws at the top, but there is room to use all four.

Now the sl-2000 sits flat on the face of the cabinet, and the grill can be put on.

I'll be putting RD0's in my fronts and sides soon, and when I do, I'll put an RD0 in the 350 as well.

No, it's a pretty small opening, and I'm not worried about it since it's not a seeled design anyway.
