Why oh why??

Why is it that every time I work on something, (in this case taking apart an amp just to clean it up), when I drop a screw or a washer it disappears, never to be found again.

I am now convinced that there is a great heaven in the sky where all these dropped screws go to. There must be some sort of pearly gate somewhere where the screw in question asks if it may enter or if it needs to return to where it came from.

I stopped at a Parts Express brick and mortar store in Ohio and picked up a telescoping magnetized wand for that exact reason. Works great if you can A) see the part B) have access to it.

These were point of sale items at the register.

Trust me I feel your pain..I cant tell you the number of times this happens when working on a computer (either cable routing or just maintenance). H9's suggestion is golden and I keep meaning to buy one myself....

I feel your pain....I don't know how many washers or small screws I've dropped into a less than easy to access area. There's nothing like increasing your work by 4 more hours, just to find a damn washer.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Simple solution. Step 1: Invert piece of equipment under repair. Step 2: Shake vigorously.

I install high speed telcom equipment or a living. I've probably sent half the population of fastener heaven there.

I have at least a couple of extra screws handy for every piece of eq I install just for droppage.
My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself.

You don't need all of the screws and washers, just most of them. Unless it's an airplane or something, and even then as long as no one sees it will be ok :eek::tongue:

My favorite is watching someone drop a piece down an intake manifold.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

I know my telescoping magnet has saved my butt quite a few times. Also comes in handy to have a large magnet that you can comb over the carpet and floors with or even an old speaker:biggrin:

    That does suck.

Equally bad is finishing a project, and having left over fasteners.

NO! That's not bad at all!

Extra pieces means you did it right!
