Not sure if I did the right thing but, I had a set of vandersteen 3A's. I just sold them to fund the RDO upgrade on the 1.2's or the 2.3's
I am still on the fence on if I am keeing the 1.2's or the 2.3's. The Vandersteen I liked verry much but, only up stairs. My main listen room is the basement. The vandies sounded terrible down here but, the polks sound good down here. The vandies sounded fantastic up stairs. I have not brought the polks up but, i might have to now after listening to the vandies before I got sold them tonight.
I am not sure if i will regret selling them but, they will be missed.
Now onto the RDO's i think i will just get 8 of them and I can change them between the 2 units and see how I like them in each.
After I decide on what ones I am keeping, then I will continue on with the crossover upgrade.
To be continued.

Keep the 2.3, ditch the 1.2.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I would keep the 1.2's.Polk HT system 1: LSIC, LSI25 mains, LSI F/X rears, Lsi F/X rear centers,
Yamaha RX-V2500 System, Carver A753 3 channel amp.
Polk HT system 2: , SRT system with f/x 1,000's rear speakers on 7.1 system currently using Onkyo TX-RZ820 receiver, powered by Sunfire Grand Theater amp
Polk Speaker collection: SDA SRS 1.2tl x 2, SRT system, SDA SRS 2 P/B, SDA 2A, SDA 1C Studio, SDA CRS+, Monitor 7B & 4, SRS 3.1tl, RTA 15tl, LS90, LSI 9 -
I would keep the 1.2's.
Ditto!! And do the tl upgrade on the crossovers and use the RDO-198's
Just my opinon!!! -
i dunno' there's just something that sets them apart from the 1.2's,,other than a mid and a tweet,,maybe it's just my ears:cool:JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

George, are you talking about the 2.3's or the vandies ?Klipsch The Nines, Audioquest Thunderbird Interconnect, Innuos Zen MK3 W4S recovery, Revolution Audio Labs USB & Ethernet, Border Patrol SE-I, Audioquest Niagara 5000 & Thunder, Cullen Crossover II PC's.

You should turn this thread into a poll of who is frosty eyed about the 1.2TL and who's not. The 1.2 will get you more for the pocket and the 2.3 modified. You'll never miss it...not sure why it's so hard for some folks.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? LOL i will say having both here and both non tl versions, there is definately a difference in sound Both have good and bad points. Thats why I was thinking of starting by getting 8 rdo's and going from there. if i keep the 2.3 then i sell 2 of the rdo's lol.
But for anyone that has heard vandersteen's will understand why i question my sale. I am hopping the rdo upgrade will give me the sweetness the vandie's tweeters have in them.
The 3a's were not a bad speaker at all. In my basement they sounded bad but in the living room they sounded fantastic. Maybe the basement was just too big of a room for them where the SDA's shine in a bigger room. ( 24 x 24) They just seemed to get lost in the basement. The polks I think just have more authority on the music over the 3a's. Although I did love the highs on the vandies. Tomorrow I will order the rdo's!!Klipsch The Nines, Audioquest Thunderbird Interconnect, Innuos Zen MK3 W4S recovery, Revolution Audio Labs USB & Ethernet, Border Patrol SE-I, Audioquest Niagara 5000 & Thunder, Cullen Crossover II PC's. -

It's not hard Mark, if one is going to order 8 RDO's then why not just get the 198's and do the tl upgrade on crossovers of the 1.2's??
You can't tl the 2.3's..
If the OP has no desire in doing the crossover upgrades then I agree with you. -
I think it's a waste of money to invest it on a loudspeaker he's already waffling about in the explanation, since he has a 2.3, and the 1.2 doesn't really offer much more than the 2.3 overall. I've owned all of them and have historically never understood what the fascination is with the 1.2 over the smaller, just as capable and super pleasing lesser models like the 1C, 2B, SRS2...for example.
What 2.3 are you talking about? If I forgot to add letters to explain my opinion, forgive me. There is a 2.3TL dude.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
I would've sold the 1.2's and kept the 2.3's and Vandies. Swap them in and out for different flavors.
I know. It doesn't help._________________________________________________

Owning the 1C's and the 1.2tl's I like the deeper bass and bigger sound stage of the 1.2tl's. But as you said the 1C's are super pleasing as well.
I want a set of SRS2's, but having 3 sets of SDA's I don't see where I would gain anything by having them at this point. I would rather spend the money on a set of Totem's or Tylers.
Ricardo,
Good point, I have to agree with you. -

Absolutely. I've said this to many members....buy other speakers. I mean that simply because you should hear everything possible while you can still hear. Not only will you experience new things but you'll see how remarkable the SDA is when compared to the modern loudspeaker.
It really is one of those speakers that should be kept in some way shape or form, tall...short...bookshelf...whetever in your collection with the DQ10, Quad or what have you. It's a classic speaker that is completely un-loved within the rest of the audio community, for the most part.
I'll always have a pair of SDA in my collection. Right now it's a pair of hotrod SDA CRS+ and pair of SRT.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
I agree. My favorite speakers are the SDA's but I also enjoy lessoning to my ADS 810's or big old Fisher 5115's. Experiencing all different types of speakers is the fun part of the hobby but I still keep coming back to the SDA's.Polk HT system 1: LSIC, LSI25 mains, LSI F/X rears, Lsi F/X rear centers,
