noob question - are RTi A9's vented speakers?
Hi Guys
I'm trying to use the below calculater for setting up my subs - and have a really basic question - are the RTi A9's vented speakers? I know it says something about bass venting.
Many Thanks.

Yes, they are ported.
Here is the Product page:

Here is a quote from it:Patented* Bass Porting Techniques
Nothing is more annoying then dialogue that sounds chesty or boomy- the result of cabinet resonance. RTi A Series Speakers feature either PowerPort Plus, PowerPort or ARC Porting to reduce or elimate this noise.
PowerPort®
Bass venting for superior clean, low distortion bass that you can really feel. PowerPort vastly reduces "chuffing" or "port noise" and provides deeper, more powerful, lower distortion bass than could be realized with conventional ported or sealed designs of comparable size.
PowerPort® Plus+
An enhancement in Power Port technology. Power Port Plus uses two ports (one front, one rear) and internal "plates" to further reduce air turbulence and increase bass efficiency. PPP allows even lower frequency tuning and lower turbulence for less noise and distortion, and more big musical bass, even at lifelike volume levels. This technology delivers performance that vastly exceeds conventionally ported speakers with bass that you truly feel, as well as hear.
ARC (Acoustic Resonance Control) Port
This technology suppress internal cabinet resonance to ensure clear, non-muddy midrange resulting in a more natural sound.
**EDIT*** But the mids and high sections are sealed.____________________

Thanks - I forgot my calculator : http://www.rythmikaudio.com/subtuner.html
Based on that - I'm assuming when I specify a cross over frequency, instead of FULL RANGE - its the same as setting my speakers to SMALL? I don't have an option for SMALL (Onkyo TX-NR807).
I've set the following for the RTi A9's
Front Speaker Type: Vented
Front Speaker Size: Floor Standing
Woofer Size: 7"
Woofer Number: 3
AVR: Yes
Crossover: 80 -
I never saw that option for setting a XO frew on an AVR--must be new or something. Maybe they're trying to make it clearer how to set it up since the question always comes up about wether it should be set to Large or Small.
Hmm I wonder what difference that setting makes.____________________

Yeh - I've always seen Large and Small , thats what my previous receiver had. Can't find it on the Onkyo 807.

Sorry I thought you were referring to the Onkyo's menu with respect to the Venting or not. I just took a look at the owners manual and it indicates that there is a "Full Band" option. I would equate that to "Full Range" or Large.
So yes, it appears that you just set the XO freq if its not 'Full Band' which apparently assumes Small or Not Large.
Did you try the Audyssey setup yet? If so what XO did it suggest?
Try XO at 80Hz. I wouldn't go higher than 100Hz. Ultimately it all comes down to what sounds best to 'you' in 'your' room.____________________

Thanks- not yet - at the moment I'm just trying to get my two subs setup properly.
I currently have all the speakers set to 80Hz.
I'll try using Audyssey once I've got my screen up, and positioned the subs properly. -
I haven't tried setting up 2 subs yet--good luck with that.
I've had enough setup issues with just one sub, and I use the Velodyne SMS-1 SubEQ to show me the Freq plot. I ended up adjusting the sub's phase, XO, among other things to get the optimal flat result.
Hopefully you'll be using some kind of tool like that to aid you in that respect.____________________

Yip - I have XTZ Room Analyzer. http://www.xtz.se/uk/products/mearurement-system/room-analyzer?stat=1
Never used it though - and don't know much about higher end AV tuning - used to my old sony system which has been replaced with the following
1.) Onkyo TX-NR807
2.) 2x Polk Audio RTi A9's
3.) Polk Audio CSi A6
4.) 2x Polk audio FXi A6
5.) 2x Rhytmik Audio D15SE's
6.) Optoma HD20
I also have acoustic treatment that I still need to assemble and apply to the room.
