I just aquired a set of Polk Audio Monitor 10 speakers probably from the early 80s. I really dont know what I have, I have not plugged them in yet, I have a 90s panasonic sa-gx690 receiver, and an early 80s bang and olufsen beo 1800 record player.
I would like to know what the specs are for these speakers I now have, and also would like to know some reccomendations on wiring. I think the receiver puts out about 100W per channel if that helps.
If anyone can give me some tips I would greatly appreciate it!

Here is the link to the Polk spec's: http://www.polkaudio.com/homeaudio/specs/recent/monitor10/
I believe there are a couple different versions (i.e. Monitor 10A and Monitor 10B). I would look at the back of the speaker at the label to find out which you have...
Either way if you use some 14 gauge or lower wire (lower the number the thicker the wire) you should be fine. Most of us order our speakerwire from Monoprice as its good and decently cheap. There is better wire out there, but you pay for it and some folks dont notice much of a difference between the cheap and expensive stuff. BlueJeansCable is one brand folks like and I am sure others will chime in with other suggestions.
Just dont buy Monster cable anything and you should be fine
There is lots of good information on this site for the Monitor 10A and Monitor 10B you just have to use the search feature to find it....

Go to the store and pick-up any no-name speaker cable 16 gauge or thicker (lower number). You'll be fine. Somewhere down the road (or never), if you ever upgrade the receiver, you MIGHT want to upgrade speaker cable. You might not.

Thanks for the tips, I have used monoprice.com for computer cables, tv mounts, and all kinds of stuff, it is a great e-store. Ill have to take a look at which model I have, is there that much difference between the two (10A and 10b)?EndersShadow wrote: »Here is the link to the Polk spec's: http://www.polkaudio.com/homeaudio/specs/recent/monitor10/

Depends, I honestly dont know, might be something as small as a different crossover type, and could be as big as a much better tweeter.
Either way there are tons of guys here that have modified these type of speakers (new speakers, crossover parts, etc) and can give you hints if they dont sound as good as you want them too.
I honestly think you just get some 16 or lower gauge speaker wire, hook them up and enjoy...."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -

At this point Monoprice is fine until you intend to upgrade your gear. DARE TO SOAR:
