Hello,
For anyone who remember the FM station WHFS one of their DJs was Weasel. He always seemed to play interesting music and was not of the "Johnny Cool" types of jocks. I was listening to WTMD (89.7) on the way to get some lunch yesterday and I noticed that the station was playing some really interesting stuff. Low and behold, the DJ comes on and as soon as he began talking I recognized him. He mixes old and new music so you just end up with good interesting music! Makes sense doesn't it?
Do yourself a big favor and catch him on Saturdays from 12 noon to 3. I plan on taping his programs for posterity, that way I can play them back when I get to the old folks home.
Enjoy, Ken

Astonishing! Wonder how old he is...?

WHFS in Bethesda, back in my yoot, was an amazing radio station.

If you visit WTMD's web site there's an article on him and a photo. I believe he is the son of the old station's owner, Jake Einstein. I worked at a stereo store in Annapolis and the HFS guys would stop in from time to time. I don't believe Weisel believed in driving cars, so one of the other guys would bring him.
Really a good guy and to say he knows popular music would be a tremendous understatement.
Before that I used to listen to them when I lived in Silver Spring. I knew people who moved from the DC area to the west coast and they would ask friends to tape shows and send them. He'll play Cab Calloway, then the Stones, then The Band, then Monk and everything will fit together.
    Cheers, Ken

As long as they don't bring back the Greaseman....followed by that babbling DC101 idiot Elliot in the Morning, I'd take listening to Ben Stein 24 hours a day, while a feral cat is tied in my pants. Weasel is cool.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

As I recall, there was also a DJ named Damian on WHFS from the same era. I listened to WHFS and recorded many hours of music off the air on an old Sony reel-to-reel. WHFS was the best way to discover underground music in Washington DC in the early 1970s. Listen to the airplay, then buy the vinyl.

+1,000! NEVER understood the appeal of Greaseman, and Elliot... all he does is shout over everybody and laugh at himself. As a matter of opinion, I think most (talk-based) morning shows are crap.

    I do miss Lopez, though.

I will tune in today. For around the house music and while raking leaves.
I like speakers that are bigger than a small refrigerator but smaller than a big refrigerator:D

Absolutely. That's the first person I thought of after reading Ken's post about Weasel. IIRC, Damian was in a car accident and it messed up his voice. I believe the station tried to fire him but he stuck in there.

Man, some good memories there; The Daily Feed, good music, interesting DJs...

Who else would start with The Bonzo Dog Band, follow with Tom Waits? Then in a later segment have a speech by General MacArthur followed by John Prine. Amazing!
