I blew two on my right speaker today while changing a turntable out (don't ask). Long story short I need two MW6511's for my SDA-1C's. Can anyone help or does Polk Audio still have these? Thanks.

    Let me guess... He disconnected the RCA cables while everything was all powered up. You get a ground loop hum for a second or two, causing a strong signal to go to the speakers. Hence blown MW6511's :frown:

    Turntable was taken out to swap with another. Pre-amp also swapped because of a ground loop hum. New pre amp in, didn't check volume knob. On full!!! Hit power button and something was not connected right and FFFRRRAAAAPPPP!!!!! Goodbye two 6511's!! Moral of story.....always always always check the frickin' volume knob before powering up.

    On a different but same note, I emailed Polk customer service and the tell me the 6510 is the correct and identical replacement for the 6511 but I thought the 6510's were the two outside dimensional drivers. Anyone know the answer? Thanks.

    Kelvin;

    Sorry for the mistake the correct driver is the MW6510 not 6503. The MW6510 is the direct replacement for the 6511.

    Sorry but that doesn't make sense. The MW6510 is an 8 Ohm driver and the MW6511 is 4 Ohms, You defiantly don't want to replace one with the other.

    I would CALL polk you'll most likely get a different answer and the right one.

    I believe 1C's use 6510's as the interior, stereo drivers, and 6511's as the exterior, dimensional drivers.

    It's the other way around, 6511's are the interior stereo drivers and the 6510's as the exterior, dimensional drivers.

    Are the MW6503's similar in impedence and voice? Perhaps I could replace all four 6511's until I can find two more. Anyone?

    bump

    Still need the 6511's or an answer to the question "can the 6503's be used as a reasonable replacement for 6511's?".

    You are correct. I was confused because my 2B's use the 6511 as the dimensional driver. Carry on....

    Kevin (zarrdoss) is the man!! The two 6511's arrived today and they were packed with care and survived both the US Postal system and Canada Post fully functional. I covered the baskets in dynamat like the previous ones and popped them back in to the cabinets. Fantastic!! My 1C's sing again just like they did the day I brought them home!! Gigantic thanks and a happy thanksgiving to Kevin and all of you at CP.
