Does anyone use equalizers with their SDA's? Does anyone use an equalizer at all anymore? I have an ole Phase Linear 1400 II and wonder if there is any use for it any longer.

I suppose you can try it and see if you prefer it.Me,, I just play mine through a sinple 2channel system,,I have found (for me),the most direct simple approach works best,YMMV,, good luck.

Both my Dad and I use the larger DBX EQ's with our main 2-channel systems.....AWESOME! A lot of the guys here do not like it, which is fine.....The SDA's take quite well to the EQ's and can be dialed in to your personal preference very easily.

    Just my $.02

EQ's have their place but it's usually because of a problem elsewhere, whether it be the room or the ears.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

    Hi brg,

I've found by lots of experimentation that the equalizer will eventually find it's way out of the loop as you take care of each and every detail.

As I replaced/rebuilt power, power cables, IC's, speaker cables, sources, preamps and amps, I found the equalizer eventually dialed in on zeros. Once that happened, even more noise was gone with it completely removed from the loop. Only good sound remained.

    Nice post.

The only other thing I could possibly add to this would be that once the EQ was out of the rig, the issues I had [but just couldn't shake] with the precision of the sound stage all but disappeared.

Good cables and synergy go a long way. I used to like EQ's, but they are more crap in the signal path.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

I still use an ADC Soundshaper 3 Paraequalizer mainly because my room has problems that I can't afford to correct right now. It really helps and is actually very quiet. It's one of the best fully analog eq's made back in the day.

I use them as well for the same reasons. Just clean it up and try it, only way to be sure IMO.
