LAPTOP power cord question

I have 2 power cords from very similar model HP/Compaq laptops. They are obviously not the same power cords due:
1. The size of the plastic 'box' is different, and
2. I can tell the amp/watt specs on the 'boxes' are different.

What should I be reading on these specs of these cords to ensure they are interchangeable with my laptop?

They usually use the same cords even if the size is different. Look for mamps and volts. If the laptops are different sizes like 13 and 15 that you can not use the same cords but if they are both 15 you probably can use the same.

Should be on the bottom of your laptop, you'll see INPUT: 12V 1A/etc.

Also, probably not something to worry about but look at whether the inner/outer connection is + or - and matches up with what's required.

This is something too often overlooked when people use a plug for a cellphone from a digital camera or something.

That's VERY important! If it's wrong you could blow your stuff up.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
