Coming to this place (Polk Fourm) has changed me in so many ways.

As I sit here listening to Jazz at the PawnShop on SACD I really took a trip back Two years ago listening to my RT55i's not having a clue about this place and worst of all not knowing what those speakers could really handle. Then one day I was like I'm going to get those floor stand speakers I was wanting 8 years ago, and stumbled on to the RTiA9's and found this money sucking website called Club Polk!!!

Well in the last two years not only did I put together a nice HT rig but most of all I found SDA!!! I have refurbished/upgraded 3 sets of SDA's 2 sets I still have with the addition of a set of CRS+'s. I have found out what music should sound like, I have found MIT cables, AQ cables, Power Cables.

Let's not forget Pre Amps,SS Amps,Tube Amps and Pre Amps and the list can go on.

But really the biggest change is what music I listen to now days.. To be sitting here listening to Jazz at the pawnshop, as well as Steely Dan. Having Elton John's SACD collection.

When I go shopping it's not for a new heavy metal album all the time but taking the blinders off and stepping into another world of music and enjoying it more then most of the crap I would listen too.

Vinyl let me not forget to mention this. CD's come out and I let my entire collection vanish.. Now I have about 400 pieces of vinyl about 100 are 180gm/mofi most new some used. When I get the time to sit and play vinyl I'm like a kid with his favorite toy!! Vinyl sends me to a place of peace. I freaking love it. IMO well worth the work in listening pleasure..

Well thank you Club Polk for helping my wallet lose weight and helping me gain weight.. Not Kidding by the way..lol.

Well enough babbling and more listening!!!

Well you have certainy made an impact since joining. Its great to have you along and share your audio journey.

I had the pleasure of hearing what your ring design can do for a set of SDA and Club Polk SDA owners owe you, a great design that steps that speaker to a new level. The tightness in the bass provided by the ring is not subtle.

It would be great to see you at a PolkFest.

    Oh, and of course.....Tubes Rule.

    Larry,

Funny. I am installing the rings in my RTA 15 TL's, and just took a break to grab something to eat and was thinking what a great contribution you have done to the Polk community.

I second Ted. You HAVE to come to Polkfest.

Yep CP did it to me too. I was happy with some vintage Infinities and a JVC receiver. Never mind all the friends I made. I too also changed my taste in music.
    Cheers CP!

I would have to agree about CP. Although I have not made any of the many contributions that you guys have, I have certainly enjoyed the reads.
I am also absorbing the many suggestions and opinions to make my decision on my designated listening rig (tube stuff I think) that I will start assembling after the New Year. U guys keep it coming and thanks Tman and all the others...enjoy the music

I came here almost 6 years ago looking for information on a way to wall mount my RT25I. I never thought I'd have 4k+ posts. I'm a member at countless forums, but this is the only one that has kept me involved enough to post much more than a few hundred times. Maybe AVS has me in for about 600 posts.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

As a newbie, I read anything Larry puts his input on. There are a few members like Larry here that in the little time I've been here I have learned to respect any advice that they give. I will keep following you guys, and strive to learn all I can. Before I came here I had a 5.1 Sony receiver from the late 90's, and pair of Sony SS-MF515's. I stumbled upon my CRS's at an auction, not knowing what they we're, but with the small back round I had I knew they looked like quality speakers, and the interconnect was very interesting. My old lady is even learning to love the CRS's, and eventually when we have the space, will have a pair of larger SDA's. My next adventure is to restore the CRS's and upgrade to pre setup. Larry keep bringing the thunder, as all of us always have opportunities to learn! I thank everyone here as my audio adventure continues.

    Great post!

I also owe CP a huge thanks (or am I a victim?). My first purchase was an Oppo player for like $120 and I thought that was pretty spendy. Somewhere early in the journey I stumbled on CP and my thinking's been radically altered. In the past month I laid down $1300 for a tube pre, bought a second CDP just for giggles (thanks miner!) while also buying a new set of $80 tubes for my other CDP.

I now listen to music in a whole new way with a previously unimagined level of enjoyment.

Larry... You truly are legendary in your own mind!

And in ours. Your insight and contribution to CP are deserving of nothing but praise. The Stainless rings and SDA crossover plates have added value to just about every single SDA speaker on the forum and have added new life to an old design. I for one, am glad to belong to a place such as CP exactly because there are guys here just like you.:cool::cool:

I hope everyone realizes the gold mine of information and support this forum provides. A simple speaker purchase turned into an amp and now an sacd player for me. Each evening is better as once the family is asleep I can unwind for a little while with a choice beverage and music like I never dreamed. A far cry from the cheap sony and the infiniti monitors from college. Not all of us will swim in the deep end of the pool but we get tremendous beneft from everyone who does and shares that knowledge with us on their gear and music.

Of course that sucking noise is the black hole that says I need a Jolida 100a and a Parasound A21 to be happy........

Larry, I'm especially glad you're here to. I'm getting closer to installing those rings I won from your Karma. I still need to karma something back!

This mornings post about cables and popcorn had me laughing here at my desk again.

This club has lightened my wallet also.(noosinjohn and his love of Carver Amps.)
I now own one thanks to his recomendation and another member's also I think.
I too am getting into vinyl again. (thanks all [you know who you are] and to Starkiller for the Denon DL-160 cartridge.{I'm getting close to installing that also})

    Excellent post Larry. Well said.

I came here after purchasing a pair of RTi70's and a CSi40 center with some R20 rears for my HT setup. I have since also discovered SDA's (thanks Geoff) Carver and the love of two channel on vinyl. I've gone from 1 vinyl record to over 2000, gone through at least 5 turntable changes, 4 pre-amps, 3 amps, 5 cd/sacd players. I'm now into modding my own gear. Best of all though I've been shown some amazing support through some very tough times (when my son's mother died) by some fantastic people i've never met. And ya my wallet is lighter but my musical enjoyment has increased 10 fold.

Thank you Club Polk and thank you Larry for reminding me.

A few years back when I lost my 20 yr old Nephew and Godson to cancer, Club Polk helped me through that low point in my life by getting me back into audio.
I thank everyone here for that. Larry you have always been one of my favorite posters and now that I am just starting to get into SDA's I hope to get a set of your rings in the near future.

    Thank you Club Polk

This is exactly why I stay on the fringe. I'm bad enough already with buying too much that I don't actually need. For you, though, I'm glad you're enjoying your journey. Where will it lead? What will the next 2 years bring?

Well put Larry. I think most of us can identify with your sentiments above. And on another note. It's GREAT to have the old Doro back....I missed him.

On a personal note, I'd like to add that the forum helped me keep one foot back home during our year in Beijing...a safe place to escape to when, at least once in a while, China became a bit burdensome (not that it was so often, but sometimes...YKWIM!). Thanks for the sanity or insanity...as the case may be?
