Why are people on Craigslist so stupid?

I agree and disagree. I deal with plenty of stupid people every day. They exist, and their numbers are overwhelming. That is where I disagree with you. I agree with the other points though. Many people in general these days are ignorant, self centered, classless, and rude."They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."
Benjamin Franklin, February 17th, 1775.

I am moving, and thus selling a lot of stuff. I was able to sell my Parasound 6 channel amp to someone who seemed quite nice. While he was looking at it, he was asking how much other things were - "How much for the TV?"..."Is the table for sale?"...etc. I was fine with it, and he bought some other stuff of mine, including a 32inch tube TV for 100 bucks. He gets it home, and three days later, he writes, and says he wants his money back because the picture is fine. I wasn't a dick about, but figured if it truly is going bad, I'll give his money back, even though I'm sure I didn't have to. He said he would just throw the TV to the curb. I told him that was unacceptable, and that if he gets him money back, I get the TV back. We had it arranged, so that this past Saturday, since I had a moving truck to move things out to a storage space, I would be able to drop by, grab the TV, and bring his cash. All the time in the back of my mind, I'm thinking he was just trying to scam me, and keep the TV while getting his money back. Low and behold, the night before, he e-mails, says the screen is 'better' than it was, and he's not sure why, but he'll keep it. Figures
At least I wasn't dumb enough to give him the money back without getting the TV back. I guess he figured since he knew I was moving, that I wouldn't want the TV back, but he figured wrong

I dont mind lowballs via email, I just give them a simple no, or at the most...a hahahaha, really?
what drives me insane is when I get an email that says "what is the absolute lowest you will take on this item." it subtely tells me, "I feel you are not worthy of even bartering/negotiating, so tell me your lowest price now and save me the trouble you knave".
my response is usually 50 bucks above asking price. I've actually had people argue with me, not realizing I am being a wise @ss. I tell them clearly, for everyone else, the lowest price is X, but for you, it's X + 50.Living Room 2 Channel -

I've bought and sold a ton of **** on Craigslist over the past couple of years and it has been an overwhelmingly positive experience, especially back when I was living in the Dallas area. Recently though I moved back to Minneapolis and everything suddenly ground to a screeching halt. Either people around these parts have no disposable income or gravitate towards hoarding everything - really I don't know what the dealio is up here.
And yes, a lot of people can be really stupid. I usually start out by doing a quick search and finding the lowest price and then price whatever it is I've got to get rid of in a hurry very close to that, and then more often than not some moron will call up and ask me all sorts of dumb **** questions(in effect wasting my time), then will have the nerve to lowball me after our little chat! I mean I lowball too sometimes, but I get my facts straight before doing so and research the item a little bit in order to get a decent handle on its current market value.
But recently just as much blame goes to CL itself. Sometime around June of this year they had enacted their new round of anti-spam efforts on the site. Ghosting became so commonplace, ads started disappearing for no reason, password resets/phone authentications went from once a year to nearly once a month, and so on and so forth. It has gotten so bad that I'm afraid to edit or even log in because doing so may have an effect on one or even more of my listings.
I know spam has always been a problem for everyone, but this is really hurting the average Joe now. Just take a quick look at their discussion forums, specifically in the Help section. It's nothing but page after page of the same "I posted my ad and can't find it anywhere on the site" topic. My stereo system: Usher CP-6311, Denon AVP-8000, Adcom GFA-555II, Sony CP-C725, Furman PL-Plus.
