I was minding my own business . . . thinking hmmm my projector seems less bright today. Then my fiance comes home and I ask her, "did you mess with the projector settings?" She said she didn't know it had settings. Next thing I hear, POP!!!!! . . . like a firecracker. And my projector is black with fan spinning
UGHGHGHGHGHGHGHHGHSJKLDAGS#ERG@#G@#$%G@$G@$GR%@$G MOTHER @#QBG@QGVF FFFFFFFUUUUUCQWERFGQRCKKKKINGGG!

Guess, I gotta call Epson tomorrow. Good thing I bought this from Projector People on warranty. The bulb only had 675 hours and 10 months of use! It was supposed to last up to 4000 hours! I at least expect 2000 hours. I'm bummed.

It happens man, though sucks to say. Premature lamp failure, but I feel your pain. Proj. People will take care of you and get you a new lamp. Expect the unit carefully and make sure no glass is in the unit if possible. My lamp installs in case that should hold any debris should it explode, as do most lamps. If it becomes an issue, complain a tad and get the newest Epson coming out.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Thanks Kunta! I'm calling Epson here shortly. I have dealt with their customer support in the past. It is second to none . . . . except maybe Polk.

Wow, less than 1k hours out of a bulb is dismal. Not sure if its a fair comparison, but I have over 5100 hours on my Sony SXRD rear projector with the original bulb. I think it may be rated for 8000 hours, but I went ahead and ordered a replacement already just to have on hand. Sounds like Epson will replace it for you no problem though. It just sucks being without it for the time to get a replacement.

Hey,
Call Epson. They apologized for the bulb. Evidently it is a known issue with bulbs produced sold with projectors during a certain period. He is sending me a new bulb that will be delivered tomorrow and confirmed that if it happens again, they will replace the bulb again! He mentioned that only some of the bulbs in the defective shipment were defective so, I may not have an issue at all down the road.
I protested and said that kinda blows that this could pop again and leave me without a projector during the big game. He said he understood and asked if I would accept a second bulb as a backup? I said **** yes! I love Epson. -
Epson's customer service kicks serious ****. Glad to see they took care of you.
My 8500UB has about 1,100 hours on it so far 'cause I use it for ALL of my viewing, even for TV (but mostly for video games and movies). So far, so good... but at least I know Epson will handle any issues I have, which is more than I can say for my experiences with Sanyo.Equipment list:

Hey Guys,
After installing the new bulb on Monday of this week I noticed a small dust blob on the right of my screen. Despite cleaning the lens, this blob remained. I called Epson for an answer. The tech said he knew immediately the bulb bursting resulted in particles being sprayed at the nearby LCD thingy.
He told me not worry because they're sending me a brand new projector!
I love Epson!
Peace out,
Mike -
