hey guys currently running a pair of monitor 30's for my rears.....was thinking about upgrading to the tsi 200's......would this be worth the cost/effectiveness.....would there be a big difference than the 30's because they would be rear channels .....i was leaning towards refurbs as well....would they flow with the current set up i have too

Not worth the cost. Plus the Monitor 40's would be a better match since they are cheaper.
But since they are surrounds its not worth it...."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -

I agree 100%.
hey k-daugh, how do you like that BPS-150i? It seems like it would be a great sub for music.2-Channel: PC > Schiit Eitr > Audio Research DAC-8 > Audio Research LS-26 > Pass Labs X-250.5 > Magnepan 3.7's

the sub is great ....ive had it for three years and never really knew how to set it up right....well with a little help from all of the polkies i finally set it up right ....about six months ago.....what a difference ...wayyy more responsive ,better quality bass .....everything was better after properly calibrating it and playing with the settings.....also i put a diy power cord on it with 14 gauge carol cable and some good quality connectors and some tech flex and heat shrink......that made a big difference as well.. musically it sounds great ....fast...responsive ht its not too shabby as well my room is 16x18 8 foot ceilings so its a lot of room to fill .....i wish there was a little more impact for ht ....but its probably a good thing .....with the wifey and all .......all she does is **** about the bass....lol....next year i wanna upgrade to a diy sub ......dayton 12" ....bash 500 watt digital amp....dual 3" ports:eek::eek:most likely gonna use 3/4" mdf for the box but then i wanna wrap it with some maple veneer or something nice that i can stain .......im still in the planning stage need to save my pennies......Budget 5.1 H.T. mainly i like the look of the tsi they are a little sharper looking .....real wood cabinets.....would an upgrade to the 100's make sense for rears or should i just stick with the monitor series........eventually wayyyyy down the line i wanna upgrade to some rti a 9's or rti 12's for my mains ..so staying with the monitor series doesnt really matter to me ......i get the cs2 from polk direct on ebay tomorrow.....can't wait to set that up ...gotta wait until the wife isnt home though ....lol:biggrin:Budget 5.1 H.T. Surrounds dont make enough of a difference either way, regardless of what series IMO. YMMV.
If the looks matter than do it, but you wont notice much of a sonic difference if thats what your going for.
The front 3 need to be from the same series normally. In my case I plan to replace my Monitor 60's and CS2 eventually with LSi 9's and a LSiC but plan to keep the Monitor 40's as surrounds since I already have them.
Heck I might even sub in the Infinity Primus P162's and move the Monitor 40's to my fronts in the office.
Glad its all coming together for you. Would highly suggest spending the cash on a really really good amp that can handle 4ohm speakers. This way your pretty well set if you decide to move up to LSi's or other 4 ohm speakers eventually."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." dually noted .....thats why maybe i was thinking of getting an ok three channel amp for now.....then down the line i can pick up a really nice three channel and move the ok one to surround duty.....im on a budget and i got two kids so we may be talking years until this actually happens but like i said a decent 400-500 amp is in my very near future......my hk needs a shot in the ****:eek:Budget 5.1 H.T. That would be a great suggestion. Like I said your surrounds dont normally need that much wattage. Getting a really good 3 channel amp might be all you need. Heck I have a 5 channel amp and only have the front 3 connected to it.

Yup, the LSi's have more clarity and my amp can do 263 watts per channel @ 4 ohms with 2 channels driven. So I plan to hook the front three speakers up to it and leave the surrounds on the Integra.
Since I will be sending anything lower than 80hz to the sub (which I will be adding an SVS PC-12NSD) the bookshelves will fill in the upper section nicely and the sub is more than adequate to handle the low stuff.
I also plan to move from a 59" DLP to a 65" Plasma and wallmount it. The bookshelves will sound quite nice, and can be wallmounted. Still not sure if I am going with the LSi7's or LSi9's, thats a big debate...
It actually will be a pretty big upgrade when it happens. Can't wait..."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -

If you have time, take a listen to both the RTi A3's and also the LSi 9's. Either would work fine provided you have a good sub.
Your ears are all that matter.
Also keep in mind there are many many other factors to consider that can change how things sound (layout, size of room, reflection points, etc).
Best advice is go listen to a good setup, preferably at a trusted source on a quality power amp. Since the RTI's are 8ohm speakers they are easier to drive than the LSi's. Most folks will tell you the LSi's need lots of extra power to really shine.
Might check if there are any forum members around willing to let you listen to their setup if they have them...."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." RTi's are just as easy to drive as the 60's so while you will see benefit from the amp, you dont necessarily need it to start with. Keep in mind they might need to be turned up higher to fill the room w/ the same amount of sound since there is less overall cone area, but sonically they do sound quite different to my ears"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." to me, but you always want to get your ears on them. Everyone has different opinions. I dont want mine to skew yours, but to me they sound better. More clear with the soundstage. So essentially a system with say four rti a3 bookshelfs and an lsic or csi a 6 would sound awesome as long as a decent sub was in place .....most likely sound a lot better than a set up like mine......also if your only using your system for ninety percent ht .....and you have a decent sub then tower speakers may be a waste of money ......yes or noBudget 5.1 H.T. Normally I would say yes and yes, but like I said it all depends on a couple things: Layout of the room/size, level you like to listen to, amount of power you feed them.
Most folks find the Monitor series sounds good with the least amount of power. The RTi's require more to really sing, but dont need nearly as much as the LSi's.
4 bookshelves can kick the hell outta towers, or sound like crap. I personally used Monitor 40's as fronts in my bedroom and didnt notice a difference between them and the 60's in my main rig.
Keep in mind with the center that if you go with the RTi's you want the center from the RTi line. The centers are sonically matched to the line they are, so an LSiC center w/ RTi speakers might sound a little wierd."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." Ok well for hypothetical sake ........my room is 16x18 with 8' ceilings its a bedroom/living room queen size bed with a love seat in front of it directly facing the tv and front mains .......there's a desk off to the right side and a small shelving unit if your sitting on the couch facing the tv .......end table on either side of the bed ......my rear speakers are mounted up probably a foot from the ceiling ......also just for **** I got r-30 in the ceiling r-13 in the walls 1/2 " soundboard and 1/2" sheetrock ......solid pine doors ......that about sums up the room ps carpeted floors there's a 6x5 window to the right of the tv with very thick sheers underneath thick curtains .......most likely will be powering the set up with a modestly powered amp .....budget is a factor in that which is also why I am interested in bookshelves opposed to towers ......listening level is moderateBudget 5.1 H.T.
