I bought a set of Polk Monitor 10B's in black back when I was in college in 1989, have had them ever since. In the last few weeks, I have started researching what I had and found that I love them as much as I did back in the day. Have them hooked up to an Onkyo TX-850 receiver that I bought at the same time and I still love it. I found another Onkyo receiver on Craigslist the other day and bought it for $30. Found a set of Monitor 5's from NeilGabriel on here a few weeks ago and they are awesome.

Well, this weekend I found a posting on Craigslist for Monitor 10's from a few hours away that was a month old. I e-mailed the guy and surprisingly, he still had them. These were Walnut which match the Monitor 5's I got so I drove over there today and picked them up. They are in excellent shape, the guy still had the original boxes and the bag and styrofoam that they came with, not a scratch on them....and the original stands, all for $200. I think I got a pretty good deal, some may not, but I am quite happy.

Basically in the last two weeks, I have bought the same speakers, stands, and receiver for $230 that I paid around $1100 for 21 years ago! Here are photos of the 10B's and the 5's.

I was telling the guy I purchased from today about buying the 5's, and he said "I may have a pair of those in here" and we walked to the TV room, he had a set of 5jr's in black that were perfect, he didn't know what they were.

I tell you, I have been looking for black monitor 5's, 7's, or 5jr's for a few weeks and haven't seen any show up. I was beginning to think they didn't exist in black.

For $200 you didn't get a steal, but you didn't get bent over either. Especially if they are in nice shape like you said. I personally viewed the 5s you got from Mike and they are nice.

You're starting a nice collection! Wait till you hear some SDAs, then your wallet will become lighter. Again.

It definitely wasn't a steal, but down here in NW Arkansas, they don't pop up that often. I got these on the other side of Tulsa. Only about $20 worth of gas, sure beats the $100 or so shipping cost you see on most of the ones on ebay, and with the original stands too, that made up for some also.

    Congrats!

I think that's a good price, considering the original boxes and stands. The stands are somewhat rare, and the boxes are probably very rare. If you ever want to get rid of them, those boxes will be worth something to a collector, I would think.

Don't ever tell someone you have the original boxes unless you have the original packing!!....I got chewed out on Agon for doing that.....in my defense, I've noticed a number of postings that say original box and packing....while it sounds anal to me, to others it seems to be quite important.....

I think it's because nothing ever seems to protect a speaker or component quite like the packaging the manufacturer originally provided. I still have everything sqirrelled away from the day I bought my 2B's from a local dealer 23 years ago.
