Downsizing

So I've had a nice (IMHO) setup for several years now that I really dig buuuuuut I got married, and my wife has never been a fan of the size of my stereo rig.

I've got:
Two Monitor 12s (has SL2500 tweets)
Yamaha MX-630 amp
Yamaha CX-630 pre-amp
Yamaha CDX-550 CD Player

Is there something I could downsize to that wouldn't compromise the awesome sonic experience i get from the M12s?

I'll have to sell the old setup, of course, but i'm about 60 messages shy of being able to do that. :)

I think this is my first post since about 2003 :)

oh and M10s and M7s don't count, as they are still wide. In fact, I gave my bro-in law my M7s.

I was thinking more along the lines of a thinner bookshelf on stands, like the monitor 40.

If you want to sell it, sell it but not because your wife don't like the size.

If my wife felt that way she would sell me.

Damn, JUST got married and she is already wanting you to sell your toys? Got another room in the house you could possibly move the rig to? My wife was like that as well in the beginning but she eventually got use to the idea that I wasn't selling anything.

Most bookshelf/monitors take up just as much space as a typical tower---think about it. Once they are on stands, what is the difference?

Having said that, well researched/purchased monitors are in NO way a compromise.

we've been married 5 years, so it's not a new thing. :) I think I'll just try to convince her to let me keep them. meanwhile, i'm worried about protecting them from my new son who is only a couple of months out from starting to crawl. Suggestions for baby-proofing one's speakers? Why do dust caps present themselves as buttons to be pressed by small children?

Have you thought about the LSi9's? They are a narrow speaker, but they are deep. They look great in a room and sound much bigger than they are. Just my 2 cents...

Time to trade in the wife.

and the child....and wrap some duct tape around the speakers....or super glue the grills to the pegs....or get wire mesh grills like the outdoor speakers....or get smaller speakers and hang them from the walls....then your son won't break them until he is about 14.....

    just a few ideas...

oh...and nice way to put the stuff up for sale....those 12's are a bit beefy....I sold mine to get my CRS+. Although they are on stands, the stands are open and don't seem as monolithic....

Discipline? Watchful eye? Same way you keep them from guzzling the Drano under the bathroom sink.
