I recently purchased a pair of tsi200 bookshelf speakers to replace my mothers old floor speakers. She has a Sony system, though dated, works well for our needs.
Anyhow, I bought some 24-gauge speaker wire to hook the speakers up with. I just registered my speakers and saw this forum. I noticed a poster was asking about using the correct wire for hooking up his system. Is the wire I purchased ok to use? I didn't know there was a difference; cause I'm CLUELESS and blond

Thanks for the response. What would you recomend then?

So long as it is not lamp cord, you should be fine based on what you describe for equipment. Welcome to CP.The Gear... ok. I know this will probably sound stupid. Is 16 heavier than 24? As the numbers get smaller does the wire itself get bigger.

WELCOME TO CP!!!
Yep; as the numbers get smaller the cable gets thicker. Based on your equipment I would recommend Lowe's for the wire. They have 16 and maybe 14 gauge copper speaker wire there for real cheap. Good luck!:biggrin:2-Channel: PC > Schiit Eitr > Audio Research DAC-8 > Audio Research LS-26 > Pass Labs X-250.5 > Magnepan 3.7's

Thanks for the info. I was thrilled when I got them hooked up! I can't believe the sound from these speakers. I went to Best Buy looking for a set to replace hers with and the saleman told me about these. He must have shown me the tsi100 cause they were $100 cheaper. I really didn't want to spend $200 but I ended up spending $300. GO FIGURE! I don't regret it for one second though. The sound is awesome! My mother is 73 and not easily impressed. She is impressed.

Congrats on your purchase. I recommend Monoprice for good and well priced speaker cables and banana plugs. Buy 16AWG and larger guage wire - you will be able to use them even when you upgrade your speakers later (and I suspect you will - don't we all?)

Welcome to the forum!
My mom likes to listen to instrumental, as do I. She has always loved Elvis. Broadway musicals is another category. I can't wait to bust out the Christmas music! -
Funny you should say that! I've been helping my mother fix up a house she purchased in August after downsizing. Having these speakers back then to listen to music while painting, installing new light fixtures etc. would have soothed my nerves! Anyhow, I can't wait till she leaves the house so I CAN turn up the volume. I feel like I'm 16 again just waiting for those moments, lol.
In addition, I have been running the idea through my mind of adding more speakers AND trying to figure out what I would need to get some great sound out of her t.v. She has a Sony Bravia 42". I know she would geta kick out of having surround sound. I'm just not sure what I need. I could figure out how to get it hooked up IF I knew what to get. -
