I'm now fully back in the vinyl game. I picked up the brand new Rega RP1 and upgraded the Ortofon cartridge to the OM40 Super. Added in the Sim Audio LP5.3 phono pre. Damn, life is good listening to the MFSL copy of Dark Side of the Moon.

Nice,I have read a couple of positive reviews on the RP1 /OM5 combo. The OM40 styli must add a couple bills to the price though.

Edit.I see it's the full swap to the OM40 super not just styli upgrade.

It's the exact table reviewed on TONEAudio online. Publisher Jeff Dorgay had the upgraded cartridge, it just needed a new stylus.

The Sim phono pre is pretty damn special in its own right.

Is the Rega RP1 available to the general public? (Looks like you had an bit of an "inside track" to get your hands on one - I'm jealous!)

I've e-mailed a couple of retailers, and they aren't shipping yet.

Last year I picked up a Technics TT just to see if my vinyl desire was more than a temporary infatuation. I highly recommend this approach, I'll get back about 90% of my total investment.

Once the TONEAudio review was complete, I told the powers that be that if the RP1 was available for purchase it wasn't going to leave town.

Although I have ZERO inside info, it should be available quite soon. I'm sure Rega wants to hit the Christmas buying season.

vinyl is the best form of entertainment imo. because you can close your eyes and listen. unlike video, no matter how good your TV might be, your eyes still wonder and you might not like or be satisfied with your surroundings. I have Dark side of the moon LP on MFSL and i also have it on Capital records. Word is out that some of the MFSL releases are not as good as we all thought they were. I been re buying many of the titles i have on MFSL and yes the originals are better, but MFSL is still good imo, but the originals might be better sounding actually. although the MFSL are original master recordings, they also might of been re-mastered . I use a ortofon super OM-20 cartridge on a Onkyo TT (1987 model), POLK SDA1 Speakers (SL2000 Tweeters), Harmon Kardon analog receiver (150 watts on 4ohms).

As far as DOTM goes, The MFSL is excellent.....the latest reissue is better. I know this may be blasphemy to some, but the SACD is the best of the bunch.

    There, I said it.

Very nice TT with a great price to boot. If it's available by year-end, it's going on my Christmas wishlist.
