For a mere $600 you can have them delivered to your door for a 60 day in home trial. Are they worth a listen? I know they get high kudo's on the review circuit. I understand it's the companies way of introducing their product so one can hear the Maggie sound & if you like it you can move up their chain & get a full credit within a years time. I'm half tempted.

Since you already have a pair of stereo subs to fill the bottom end, I'd say why not... I had a pair for a year or so and enjoyed them.

    One word... delamination

    lol

I had mmg-ws and I like them... pretty good for wall mounted speakers. I listened to the full panels MMGs too, and they were very clear.

The speakers "Beam" sound to you though... there isn't much of a sweet spot...but that spot it has is an overload :)

The guy that lived three houses down had four of those MMG's in a tiny room. None of them were placed in even close to a desirable position (the surrounds were almost at arm's length), and it sounded great. Not too much low end, but you could do a great deal worse for $600. He got them when they were $500 delivered. Sweet little speakers.

De-lamination is not a problem with modern Magnepan speakers. If anything, abuse is what has caused more damage. I've owned at least a dozen of them.....from 1976 - 2009, Tympani IV to 3.6R. Vintage Magnepan need to be heard and certainly it WAS a problem but it's more common in the loudspeakers that didn't have UV protection. When they have old looking wood frames and tweed fabric? Yeah, you better know what you're doing....for example.

The MMG is the tease of the entire lineup and while Ricardo has a stellar pair that requires a second look, I don't mess with the tiny models anymore.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I tried a pair of these speakers and it was a mixed bag. I had a hard time adjusting to the lack of umph and no low end. I had a Mirage S12 sub at the time, but it didn't integrate well because you need a really quick and clean sub to match well with these speakers, otherwise is sounds off. I think your dual 12" Velo's would be a perfect match for these. What I though the speakers did exceptionally well was string instruments. I had never heard a speaker do strings as well as the maggies did. I didn't like them with Rock music, but that was in part to the sub I had. I hope you try them out.

I also have to agree with the "tease" comment above. I totally wanted more.
