My search continues. Its my understanding that Pioneers have a warmer voice compared to other AVRs. What am I missing if I go with the 1020 compared to the 1120? Does the 1020 have pre-outs or do you have to go with the 1120 to gain pre-outs?

My initial AVR thought was going with a Onkyo 608. Does the Pioneers sound warmer than Onkyo?

If you want warmth, then its Harman Kardon or Marantz...both 'warmer' musically than Pioneer. But yes the Pioneer is not quite as bright as the Onkyo. But, personally, I don't see Onkyo as bright but more neutral with a slight roll off of the harshness in the high end?

In any case..you should listen to some of the above. But you'd probably be happy with the Pioneer 1120. The 1120 is just a BETTER build than the 1020 and has pre-outs for external amplification and better DACs and more powerful internal amplification. That's also a reason to consider the ONKYO TXSR 708 over the 608. The 1120 is also very similar to the entry level Pioneer Elite (and that's a selling point)!

    Good Luck!
