Main fuse for Parasound HCA-1000 blown

Hello,

When my Parasound HCA-1000 power amp wouldn't turn on I checked all the fuses and sure enough the main fuse below the AC receptacle was blown. The fuse holder has, "Use only with a 250V fuse", molded into it; no amperage given. The fuse itself has "F6AL" stamped on one end. There is no information about the fuse in the user manual except to say not to replace it with a larger value.

Can anyone here say for sure what main fuse belongs here? The saleschild at Radio Shack couldn't tell from the number.

I made an earlier suggestion of 1a/250v which was incorrect. It wouldn't do anything but blow upon power up but either way it's wrong, had loudspeakers on my mind.

If you're talking about the fuse from the power inlet, to the main PCB, it should be 12a/250v. However, that's from peeking at my a Parasound HCA-3500, which is a larger amplifier. The draw on both is different but the design is still dual mono, basic architecture....but who knows.

I have schematics on all the HCA series but have to dig them up. I'll let you know if you haven't already talked to Parasound by tomorrow...or whenever. PM me or email me if you need further assistance on Parasound gear.

Thanks, dorokusai. I will call Parasound tomorrow. Since I bought this amp used it occurred to me that the wrong fuse could have gotten in there.

    D'oh!
It was printed directly above the AC inlet: 6.3A. Should it be fast or slow blow?

All is well now. Parasound confirmed the fuse as a 6.3A/250V slow blow. The counterman at Walker Electronic Supply pointed out that the F in F6AL stands for fast blow. That is probably why it blew. A week ago the amp would not turn on except after I jiggled the power cord at the inlet. I must have been jiggling the fuse a bit to to get it to close.

The sound is better now. I had noticed a bit of occasional scratchiness which is gone now. I think the fuse was opening a bit intermittently.

    Thanks for your help.
