ARLINGTON, TX—Ten years after signing a record $252 million contract to play baseball in Texas, third baseman Alex Rodriguez finally delivered for the Rangers by leading the franchise to its first-ever World Series. "A-Rod came up big for us this entire series, all the way up until the last out," Rangers manager Ron Washington told reporters during a postgame press conference, saying that the Rangers would have had no chance of beating the New York Yankees without Rodriguez's remarkable performance at the plate. "It was a long time coming, but you have to give the guy credit. He was the Rangers' MVP, no question." Washington added that seeing Rodriguez take Texas to the World Series was one thing, but A-Rod almost single-handedly beating the Yankees was "extra sweet."

As a Mariner fan, I pray to the baseball gods every spring that A-Roid will fail miserably.

He hated benig in Seattle almost as bad as Seattle hated him being there.
My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself.

And Seattle has Ichiro. I just love watching Ichiro play ball. Much more entertaining than Nim-rod.

I don't particularly care for A-Rod, but Washington's quote is bush league if you ask me...maybe he should be focussed on beating the Giants instead of rubbing it in A-Rod's face. BS like that is what will make me NOT root for a team...

The Rangers deserve to be there. Hope Tom Hicks is thinking about selling the Stars so they can get to another Stanley Cup. One time many years ago anything he touched turned to gold - different story now. I am very happy for Nolan Ryan and the new management/owners.

How would it be 'obvious'? You tagged the thread with the 'News' label, copied and pasted what appeared to be a news article, and didn't put a smiley or give any indication that it was a joke or irony.

Given all that and the fact that there is truth behind the statement (as in it's technically correct) and Washington's history of maybe not having the best judgement all the time, how exactly was the humor 'obvious'?

Dude, that's like the 3rd time (that I've noticed) that you've thrown a story from The Onion up here as news. If you enjoy reading the onion, great. I think its funny too, but keep it to yourself! If anybody else wants to read the onion, great for them too. But don't go posting their stories as news.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...
