Eh smoked a few at times, but not something I would spend big money on.

I'm a drinker more than a smoker and would rather sit and spend $$ on a nice bottle of something that would help get some ladies close by then something smoking that would keep them away... :(

There's a lot of gals smoking cigars now. Maybe it's the Paris thing or whatever the motivation is you'll see a lot of gals smoking them. I know/date 3 girls that like cigars. I think that stigma has moved on. At least in the smoking context that is.
Then again I know some girls that have bigger balls than some of the guys I know.

She might like the smell of them from a distance in a well ventilated area, but I guarantee, she wouldn't like a huge cloud of cigar smoke in her face. Heck, I don't either. They are strictly an outdoor activity for me.

A few fingers of scotch, a nice mellow robusto (I tend to like the Honduran maduros), a cool night breeze. Great way to end the day.

I used to do that a few times a week. I had a fully stocked humidor and made a few big purchases a year.

Then kids came. Now I'm always too tired to sit through a hour long cigar. I still have a mostly full humidor (I'm guessing 40+ cigars), but I've probably only had 3-4 all year long and that included some vacations. All I can say is, my cigars are all well aged. I've probably got some sticks in there that are pushing 10 years old. I gave a bunch of my oldest ones away to my Dad last year to thin out the humidor.

Worst cigar ever. I might as well just choke on a pepper shaker. That's NOT a cigar I'd suggest to a newbie :D
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Long ashes to you guys. We used to get the Cigar Dave Show here on Saturday afternoons. Talk about an excellent, educational show about cigars, adult libations etc... I don't smoke them(quit smoking over 20 years ago) but who knows, at my old age, why not enjoy a great cigar from time to time on a special occasion.

Bill.....that one is between Mark and I. I love it, but he is right, it is not for the newbie cigar smoker.

Why so nasty? Are you one of the aforementioned yuppie fashion smokers or do you actually enjoy cigars?

I agree with you 100%. It's when Paris and All her friends started smoking them at clubs. The effin prices jumped 200% on just crappo cigars.

I still say there's nothin like a nice glass of Cognac, Whiskey or Scotch and a nice Cigar. Especially if it has been rolled on the thighs of virgins!!!

    You got it! :D

around here most people smoke cigs if anything as they are just college students. The only time I've really seen girls around cigs is at a wedding with a lot of complaining about the boy's doing gross stuff. I have yet to find a lady around here that either A enjoys cigs, or the smell of them.

We are a college town and most of the city is like that. Just a lot of cheap beer and cheap cigs, if you order a 5 dollar shot your big $$....

Cigars are great, but the yuppie fad of the 90s really screwed things up for prices. People paying gobs of money for absolute garbage and driving the costs up on the quality cigars for the true aficionados. The sure fire way to spot a cigar noob is when they talk about Cuban cigars like they're the holy grail of cigars -- they're not. Then you have crap like Acid from Drew Estate, which is like smoking a cigar that smells like it was rammed up a ****'s hoo hoo and then slipped in a cellophane sleeve. I worked at a cigar shop to help out a family friend for many years and my favorites are Padron Anniversario.

Everyone has to start somewhere. A group of us in a very successful sales office where I used to work I started enjoying cigars in the late '80's and '90's.

Call it what you will, but I don't think it was illegal to start enjoying cigars at the time.

Your post makes you sound like some kind of effete snob who thought he had a monopoly on cigar smoking at the time, and no one else was allowed to start enjoying the fun.

And like Ron-P said, it was a wonderful government tax that drove pricing north.

Sounds like you're just trying to stir the pot...but here goes...

I guess I'm confused, when did I ever say anything negative about anyone getting into cigars? Isn't this thread started by such a person? I hope he enjoys this hobby as much as he does audio.

If you're not some yuppie clown that only started smoking cigars because it became the "cool" and "fashionable" thing to do, I don't know how anything I said would apply to you.

I was working in the business for a long time...the main thing that drove prices up was the boom. For a business, that was great. For the consumer, it sucked. I take it you understand the fundamentals of supply and demand, yes? Demand was high, supply was lower and there were definitely manufacturers taking advantage of the boom and spiking prices.

I actually had to write a letter to Jorge Padr
