09-24-2010, 06:37 PM A sunny day in NJ. At this time I had just loaded up my new ML's and was heading home. Thoughts racing threw my mind about what I just bought. Slowly I made it home safely with my new toys.
The first night was at my neighbors house. With a very large room they did not sound right at all. All voices sounded muffled and I was angry. Thinking this was a joke that I would actually get a nice set this cheap.
The next day i unplugged them and left for school. Later that day i came back to the neighbors house and took them home. I hooked them up, but still did not seem right. So i unplugged them and left them for 24 hours. Came home with distilled water. The next morning I woke up ready to clean them. I took them apart quickly but carefully. After giving them both a shower and letting them dry for a day, I reassembled them. What a difference, but still just not that ML sound I heard a year ago at best buy. After posting some pictures I found out why. Way to much toe in for them. After adjusting them using the flashlight method I sat down for another listen. Much better but it was very hard to have them 3ft from the back wall.
A week later I decided it was time to paint. So at this time I also decided to move them to a much more flat and even wall with more room to move them apart.
After done painting I moved them in to position. 3ft from both walls and did the flashlight setup. I sat down for a listen. It was like I was home FINALLY got them right.
The actual Review
Now to the pros and cons
First off to me these are what I have wanted. Might not be the same model but they are close enough at least for now. I know they are going to sound so much better with a external amp which I am working on getting. I would like to juice them with at least 350 if not the full 400 watts they can take.
I am enjoying these so much sense the day I got them running right I have not gone a night without listening to music. That to me lets me know that I love music. I have noticed myself listening to much more smooth music like Michel Buble, Norah Jones, Diana Krall, Freddy Johnston along with many others that have made there home to my music collection.
The sound produced by these is very clear, my one con I will throw in here is that I want them to be so much louder. But I know I am running them off a a receiver that is not suppose to be running a 4 ohm load. I know once I get a amp that will probably go away as a con. Woofers are very quick and can produce a good amount of bass for coming from a speaker. The psw10 I had is no longer with me. These put it to shame however a sub is needed to get lower in the freq range. When sitting in the sweet spot and listening to almost any kind of music, the sound is ver centered as if the artist is right in front of you even though there is no center speaker. Norah Jones is amazing this way as an example. Highs are very smooth and even at higher volumes no complaints with them getting harsh even with low power.
Even writing this almost a month later and the "new equipment excitement worn off. With the lights dimmed and my eyes glued to these gorgeous towers rising in my room. I still get amazed at how beautiful they are. I mean that. They are so beautiful in the dim lighting and a great conversation piece for company.
Cons,
These are very sensitive to how they are positioned and how much room they have. Have to much they sound like crap have to little they can not breathe, give them the right amount and the pay off is big.
Another thing unless you are close to the sweet spot they can sound a bit off, which is to be expected. They are also power hungry and I know they want more power than what I am giving them.
They will make your tv look like its smaller than what it is. With them sticking out 3ft from the wall the illusion is that your tv is smaller than what it is. Not to mention they stand at 5ft something inches.
Bad recording cd's will sound like crap. I know this because I have come accost a few of them in my collection.
May do some more details or another review when I get an amp. Until them I am happy with my speakers. Just need the amp, cd player, and better br player.

Nice little review, and good to hear you're enjoying the speakers!
I beg to differ regarding the room size comment. You simply need to work with placement, which can be said with ALL speakers. Magnepans+ML's+Acoustats and such require a little more work. The payoff is worth it though!
Get a high-current amp on those bad boys! You'll be glad you did

My neighbors room is 24 feet high 24 feet wide and about 14 feet long. Those ML's can not be ran in that size room you need the summit x's for that.HT setup

I've heard similar ML's in large rooms, and powered properly they were PLENTY loud in the sweet spot. Just my experience.Truck setup

I think you would benefit from some new panels
My ML source sound amazing from any angle but really shine bright in the sweet spot . The placement is the pain with my logans so I marked the carpet so as to not have them looking like a set of goal posts in my living room every time I wana listen
I think you should borrow a tube amp from some one and you will get a taste of power from the stats like never before
I put my integrated tube through my logans and bang bang the sound was roaring like a lion but imo I thought the tubes warmth took away the very top end of my tecno lol
Get a realy good amp and then youl know why every one who owns these speakers recommends one
