What is the most significant audible upgrade to a seemingly perfectly functioning pair of 2.3's?
HT: Polk SDA SRS 2.3 main fronts, Klipsch RC-25 center channel, Polk RTi-150 rears, M&K V1B sub, Denon AVR-5800, Samsung 52" LCD, Sony BDP-S550

Not as easy as new tweeters, but just as valuable IMO

Best upgrade to a set of 2.3's is to get a second pair for a hundred bucks  I sure hope a forum member gets these...

Wow, that is a crazy good deal if they are in good working order

That's what I was thinking. Maybe my questions should have been what is the FIRST upgrade to be done.

    ...thanks all!

Agreed. Caps for sure; enough folks think replacing the resistors is important and so I did...although I'm really not convinced that the resistors degrade over time. I AM convinced that Polk was "overly generous" with the tolerance range of the parts used in the crossovers; so I suppose upgrading to tighter-tolerance resistors is likely a good thing.

If the crossover is degraded, NOTHING else is going to make the speakers sound right.

Well since crossovers and tweeters are covered. Those would be my One and Two upgrades, the next steps for me would be Spikes (getting them off the floor) Dynamat the steal baskets, and install rings.

My recommendation on the most significant audible upgrade if you have to pick one would be tweeter replacement. I have replaced the caps and resistors in my 2.3 and 2b's (no TL mod). The audible difference of before and after was small to me. Later I TL modded the 2b's and changed the tweeters out for some SL3000's and this conversion was astonishing. It was very noticeable how the speakers sound had improved. Long story short; Go with the RDO-194 tweeters first. I think you will be surprised. Just my 2 cents. ;)

Thanks for all the replies. I think I'll likely recap first to make sure everything is in spec, (did that to the Carver Platinums) and then do the tweeter upgrade next. Is the TL mod worth it and what does it consist of?

I don't think it can be done on the reg 2.3's not very easily anyway.

Don't worry bout the tl mod, you would be better off finding a set of tl's.

You will be happy with what your doing with these.

What exactly is the difference of the TL model? Those are the ones that don't have the disc on the woofers right?

They are totally different. The drivers and XO's are totally different.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks
    Ben

Ok, good enough, thanks. One last question. I haven't taken the drivers out yet, but do you know if the speaker cabinet top and bottom caps come off or are they integral with the rest of the construction? I'd like to make the replacements of gloss piano black finish as the rest of my equipment, stand, and TV is black and I think that would really make them look a lot more up to date, not that the wood looks bad.

I may be wrong but I think you will see that you can remove those top and bottom caps once you open them up.

Improve your sonic abilities/qualities first,,crossover upgrade and tweeters,,then tackle the cosmetics,,just my humble opinion.
