SDA and too much of a good thing

Lets say you were fortunate enough to have two identical pairs of SDA SRS speakers. Would it be possible to put them all together, in pairs to improve or widen the sound stage? If so, would an AB AB give a wider sweet spot or AB BA deeper? Or would the resulting sound be similar to a bad horror flick soundtrack?;)

I would have to agree. I've run my SDA SRS 2's on the outside with SDA 2B's on the inside, positioned so the fronts of the cabinets are all precisely in the same plane and level, with the 2B's about 8' center to center and the 2's about 10' center to center.

Either pair singley sound much better than the combined sound of both at the same time.

Complex problems always have simple, easy-to-understand wrong answers.

Not in my world. I have seen our engineers spend years and millions to come up with an extremely complex and difficult to support (understand) wrong answer all to often.

Bad idea. You'd be asking for a world of phasing and cancellation issues, smeared inaccurate sound staging and a plethora of other issues.

I tried this with my two pairs of SMGa's and a good sub in a large room with plenty of juice and had lot's of fun.

What are SMGa's? If they don't have SDA technology, you are comparing apples to filet mignon.

SMG's are Magnepans from the 80's.

I tried running two pair of SDA's next to each other and it sounded like crap. To many canceling issues. Think about it, two SDA channels crossing paths with two stereo channels.

I did run them in a quad setup and they sounded awesome but that is a different path altogether.

Oh my gosh, Quad.... That takes me back. I used to have an old Pioneer quad 8 Track in my car way back in the 70's. That would be a rush to have 4 monster SDA's front and rear with Pink Floyd Dark side of the moon, or like suggested good ole Moody Blues playing in genuine 4 channel surround.

Not to worry though, If I do get another pair of SDA's, they will be in my home theater.

    If you have to ask.......

(hint) It was a follow up to the quads mentioned earlier, and for the record, SMGa's are different from SMG's.

    Cheers!

I have run my 1.2 and 2.3 together. How you do it and make them sound good is do NOT connect the ic cable on one set. I put the 2.3 inside and the 1.2's on the outside and put the cable on the 1.2's No it was not accurate but talk about a HUGE wall of sound!!!! When I tried the IC on both sets it killed the sound.
