    how do you like the hca, I've been contemplating picking 1 up and selling my xpa-3. just for a change of pace. Have you owned other amps to compare it to

    My HCA was purchased new 7 1/2yrs ago, I see no reason to get rid of it. It does need good ventilation, at least 8" clearance from the top. It runs pure class A for the first 25watts, then reverts to Class A/B. I recently got my ears on a $3500 Cary, and as good as the Cary was, I was very pleased how well the Parasound stacked up, especially at $995 new. The differences were there, but subtle; vocals were a little bit more realistic thru the Cary (less nasal), and lower end weight/foundation a bit better. Mids were a bit more organic. Was it $2500 better?--no way....I might go about $1700 on an amp with the improvements the Cary showed--but this is strictly my opinion.
