HELP! Anyone out there? Rotel AVR issues

I am setting up something like my 5th receiver in the past 3 years....apparently I didn't learn anything.

I have the Rotel RSX-1067. I have two major problems (and damn I wanted to watch a movie tonight):

1. I cannot get the test tone to function. I followed the instructions to make sure that I was not in bypass or in external input. I can toggle through speakers, but no test tone.

2. The real disturbing problem is that when I try to listen to a DVD or cable, the volume is so loud that I think it will blow the windows. If I try to turn the volume down, it stays at the same level until it gets to minimum.....where it is essentially off....so all, or nothing. I have turn on volume set to 20 (previous owner had it set to 45)....

I am sad.....and it is getting late, well sort of...

That is one huge receiver. I'd double check your DVD connections - also check the manual.

Did you just buy this? And has your test tone every worked? Thanks.

well, it's like this....some nights you should just use the system you have and not try to set up a new oe in a hurry and more or less in the dark.....frankly, I am to embarrassed to admit what I did....

but, all is good....and I now have a comparison of the 1067 with the BK Ref 30 and the Rotel RB 985. I have got to get better lighting in the HT room!
