Unfortunately, I find this to be the case for most manufacturers (including Polk). Plastic all over, cheap Chinese manufacturing and the list gors on. I don't know about the US, but here in Canada big box store are really moving away from quality speakers and all you can find in store is those plastic boxes. I use to see some decent Polk speakers and now the rare Polk that are in the store is the cheap and hugly RM6750 which seems to be the only one that can compete with HTIB plastic offerings (Sony, Samsung just to name a few...).

BTW, seems like definitive also has their share of plastic toys

FWIW, I had a RM6750 set $158 on clearance for 5 speakers and a subwoofer, and realized my mistake in buying them. My Definitive sats cost nearly that much each... and I have no interest in replacing them. They're for TV and casual HT only, but they sound darn good. :)

At thier pricepoint (repeat that to yourself), I think that you'd be hard pressed to find a higher quality product in terms of fit'n'finish than Polk. Period. End of story. While they aren't MY cup 'o tea, PSB is about the only other company that I've had experience with that is in the same league. YMMV.

Outsourcing is what it is....fact of life. To be honest, it's not something that I'm losing a ton of sleep over anyway. Our economy has been globalizing for the last 50 years. Isolationism died as a practical policy during the Great Depression. Ask yourself, would you would rather have, A. the ability to create and innovate or B.the ability to manufacture?

If you don't control A., B. is all but irrelevant.
