Correct me if I'm wrong, but this seems quite high for these speakers...

I got mine for $100, but that was a pretty good deal. 2-300 depending on condition is my guess.

I sold mine for that a few years back.

It is too much for the going rate, but it is a steal for the sound you can get out of them.

Overrated loudspeaker. They need work to sound really good.

True. But there's documented improvements in this forum, and it just takes some xover changes. If you are anyway going to update the xover, the mod is really easy.

Would this be true for the RT8T'a as well?

IMO doing a XO upgrade on these older speakers is a no brainer.. And the cost in doing the 15's - 8's is a budget upgrade to beat..

I had the 15's and decided I did not want to put the money in them as at the time I had the Monitor 10's ,7B's and 3 sets of SDA's, and sold them.. I thought they sounded blotted if that makes sense.

The only RTA I would leave alone is the RTA12, the rest need some work. The RTA8T is the easiest to hotrod.

I disagree. Not every vintage loudspeaker NEEDS an upgrade.

TFLF - Bloated? Absolutely. Much akin to the Monitor 12.

Sorry I didn't mean they "NEED" an upgrade but the cost can be very low to do so plus the benifits can be great as well as what you learn in doing so..

Agreed for the most part. A loudspeaker should be based on its original merit. Sure, you can upgrade anything but at some point you take away the signature of that loudspeaker. My DQ10's are modestly modified as I didn't want to take away the original sonic signature of the loudspeaker.

For some reason, when someone changes or upgrades their xover, they turn into a audio engineer and designer. I try to keep it simple. DIY folks rule, don't get me wrong. Replacing a couple things with better components doesn't really WOW me. There are some folks on this forum that actually build speakers....replacing things is not awesome.

The xover upgrade fashion started a couple years ago on this forum and the payoff is not rocket science....and sometimes its just because there's nothing else to do.

Only a couple years ago?? Really?? The payoff on my 1.2tl's was awesome!! I will have a hard time letting go of them as well as my 1C's. I am done for the time being buying Polk Speakers as I want to get outside the box now, try something different.. I have thought about building my own but I have a few things to learn first. I can build the cabinets thats the easy part for me but matching components will be the trick. oh and honning my solding skills:p

Back to the 15's, IMO they need the upgades to get them to shine..
