Hi guys, I'm still pretty new to converting to 2-ch and been seeing the term
breake in time thrown around an awful lot. When it comes to speakers when and how does this happen.I own a pair of refoamed Infinitys and have run them at various levels for all sorts of time periods. My new/old amp the Adcom which is ss so I dom't think this burn in is a factor. This is big on so many sites so it has to hold some credence but to who , but when. With tubes one can say they need to warm up but other gear I don't get it.With me I clunk the h/d Adcom swicth, push theOnkyo pre on button, push the Denon on and away I go without a minute
of time to warm up.I do remember years ago when buying a new car you'd
have to baby it for about500miles. Is this the same theory, if so when do you know youv'e reached optimum performance.......lw
PS May NEW THREAD---when to you invest to re cap amps. With speakers one could see and hear blown surrounds but the internals, how does aguy know to do this kind of work......lw

On speakers, the flexing (loosening up) of the surround as well as electrical break-in of cross-over components will affect the final sound. Different speakers take different amount of time to break-in fully, but generally after a month of normal use--they'll be there.
As to re-capping I have no idea.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -
I don't know which Adcom you have, but my gfa555II didn't sound good until it had warmed up for 15-20 minutes. I just left it on all the time when I was using it.

My general belief is any audio component will reach it's optimal state after 500 hrs of burn in/use time. This is my opinion based on my experience.SRT For Life; SDA Forever!
The SRT SEISMIC System:
Four main satellite speakers, six powered subs, two dedicated for LFE channel, two center speakers for over/under screen placement and three Control Centers. Amaze your friends, terrorize your neighbors, seize the audio bragging rights for your state. Go ahead, buy it; you only go around once. -
To the OP, you are talking about two different things. Burn in/break in occurs when you have a new piece of gear or have replaced certain parts like upgraded crossovers, new drivers, etc.
Warm up occurs when you turn on a piece of gear.
In either case, the amount of time will vary. With burn in/break in I would say at least 200 hours or when the sound settles down and you no longer hear changes. With warm up, a few minutes to a few hours.Political Correctness'.........defined

I know there's varying opinions as to whether or not burn-in or break-in exists. I was on the fence until I purchased my little Sunfires a couple of months ago. In all truthfulness they only go down to 90hz, but when I got them bass sounded like someone was tapping their fingers on cardboard.
After a month or so, they finally opened up with a larger sound stage and a noticeable fullness. In essence, I think it all depends on the type of speakers.HT: RTi8s, CSi3, RTi4s, HSU ULS-15, Pioneer Elite VSX-23TXH, Sunfire Cinema Seven.

the amp is an Adcom gfa555 industrial model w/the handles. I've listened to it just after flipping the switch and also later on and I swear I hear not one note of difference. Maybe it's the periferals that I'm using, so on to a better cdp first. The Denon I have is very noisey
and just maybe it might be the culprit....... Any help would gladly be absorbed. One other thing I do not have a sigle connecter or cords or cords that are dipped in gold......LW2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E
