Exactly my thought. This whole 'The Shack' thing is only a year or two old I believe. HTS was registered in 95'?

I used to like Radio Shack years ago. Now everytime I go in I leave empty handed and disappointed. I would rather pass the time bored and following my wife around JCPenny rather than go in their stores any longer. It is quite the mystery that they are still in business given their current product offerings.

Really. I always called them Radio Shack. What was it before?

It's a good thing they didn't call themselves "The Monster Home Theater McShack". ;)

Probably why they'd be going after HTS, one last attempt of survival at the expense of a successfull business

To my knowledge, their nick name was always Radio Scrap on my side of the border.

Radio Shack (aka the Shack better check with our 'Shack' before they continue with this).

They should really call themselves the Kiosk instead of the SHACK because all they really sell these days are CELL phone contracts???

This is kind of old, but this article about Radio Shack is one of the best things The Onion has written:

That's hysterical. It pretty much sums up my opinion of them. Thanks!

Back in the day, Radio Shack was a place you could go into and ask the old guy behind the counter (who owned the franchise) a question about anything electronic-relatedand get an answer. Old guy probably had a ham radio on and talking to Russia.

Now ? Ask the d00000d where they have full-wave bridge rectifiers hidden, and he'll have an episode of St. Vitus dance.
Ask him if that new ATT Neon cellphone makes your butt look fat, and he'll be able to give you an expert response.

I agree, going there is awful now.

The DIY selection is less and less, and the worse part, the lines. Since their new target is cell phone sales, having to wait on line behind someone purchasing or having issues with a phone is painful. I'll buy my solder braid and other misc. parts online for now on, thanks.

In the early 80's, bought my first computer: Tandy 1000a.
4.7 Mhz (could get an aftermarket overclocked 5 Mhz but that voided your warranty).
    512K ram.
    TWO floppy drives !
    $1000.

Radio Shack was still in the game, then.

Can't think of a thing that I'd go to RS for now. We have a couple of old-school stores in town that are a good mix of new and re-cycled stuff manned by folks that know their stuff. Gateway Electronics and ...... can't remember the name of the other place. Makes for cool browsing, especially if you're trying to figure out how to tweak a Tesla tower into a time/space ripping machine.
