RCA Cables Questions

So I recently got my UPA-5 but I forgot to order the RCA cables. I was wondering if I can just buy 1 white/red RCA cable and 1 red/white/yellow cable and use the yellow for audio? That would solve the 5 cables required for the pre-out. Am I being a dumbass?

Is there better RCA cables you'd recommend (I know there many places to buy but specific cables you would recommend)? Probably need around 3ft length but not sure yet since my equipment shelf is not built yet.

Thanks!

See Blue Jeans cable for well built, good quality cable that won't cost you an arm & a leg.

Blue Jeans or Monoprice are good places to start.

If you have time, I'd check out:

You can basically rent interconnects and see which pair sound best to you. I believe you have to pay for shipping and handling. "Renting" the cables is like a down payment because it will be subtracted from your purchase if you choose to buy from The Cable Company.

For beginners, I'd start off with some AudioQuest interconnects. I'm not too sure as to whether or not using the component (yellow) RCA...I'm sure other members will address this.

IMO ICs do make a difference, but that will be up to you to decide when you're able to do some compare and contrast trials.

Thanks! I will look into both blue jeans and the cable company. I have some monoprice cables at the moment though but cannot hook anything up yet since the room is still being prepared. I just wanted to know if the yellow cable will be an okay temporary solution so I can use existing cables in the mean time.

I second that. Audioquest cables are great upgrade from your basic. Did that myself and then slowly upgraded to higher end preowned cables. But watch out for some of those Audioquest cables on fleabay as they may be of questionable authenticity.
