HAVE A PROBLEM. NEED HELP. I GOT HOLD OF 2 ALPINE DUEL 4 OHMS EACH,A R SERIES 10 INCH AND 12 INCH SUBS. SO I DECIEDED TO BUILD THE BEST SUB BOX I COULD BUILD FOR MY TRUCK.IT CAME OUT TO ME PERFECT. I MADE A SPLIT BOX,PUTTING THE 12 INCH FIRING DOWN FROM THE BOTTOM AND THE 10 INCH FACING OUT AT THE TOP TOWARD THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. IT IS SITTING IN THE REAR OF MY EXTENDED CAB S-10 TRUCK. IT LOOKS BEAUTIFUL,AND I KISS IT EVERY MORNING WHEN I GO TO WORK. HERES MY PROBLEM. I DIDNT THINK IT ALL OUT. IS THERE A FIX FOR THIS WITHOUT REPLACEING THE SPEAKERS? HERE IT IS. THE 12 INCH SUB IS 85 DBS PER 1 WATT,AND THE 10 INCH SUB IS 83 DBS PER 1 WATT.I CAN'T REALLY TELL ANY DIFFERENT,BUT MY FREIND AT A CAR AUDIO SHOP SAYS I WILL BURN OUT MY AMPLIER. ITS A POLK AUDIO MOMO 500.1. I DON'T WANT TO HURT MY AMPLIER,AND I ALSO DON'T WANT TO BUILD ANOTHER BOX.IS THERE A FIX FOR THIS,OR WILL IT BE OKAY? LIKE I SAID BEFORE.I DON'T REALLY HEAR A PROBLEM. PS. I HAVE THEM WIRED FOR 2ohms. PLEASE HELP.

sounds like you have a really cool install!

doesn't the "db per watt" just define the relative efficiency of each particular sub? meaning the higher the db, the louder a particular sub will play at a particular wattage? I don't see how different efficiencies would burn out your amp.

I could only see a problem if the subs were rated to handle vastly different power loads, and you had to crank up your amp to a point that might burn out one of the subs (the one not capable of handling as much power).

I'm sure some of the professional installer types will chime in to shed some light on what your friend was telling you, and if you need to worry about it.

I'd say he probably just had a brain ****.

If he really meant that, then I suggest he find a job in a different line of work. Just sayin'
