Hey... me again, lol

Ive got the Pioneer VSX 920 and im puttin a HT together but since the front speakers are the important ones.......

the question is... is it worth it getting the RTi10 with that receiver? Should i think of gettin the M70s or something that uses less current?

I can hardly get $500 to spend on two speakers (basically thats the price of 2 Rti10)

thnaks:D

Yeah I think the Monitor 70s would be more easily driven with your existing receiver than the RTi 10s.

I agree, a pair of Monitor 70's will sound good. Consider a pair of Monitor 60's.
They tend to get forgotten, but they are a nice match for your receiver.

I have a bedroom system with Monitor 60's, a CS2 and a pair of PSW10 subwoofers up front driven by a HK 254, with Monitor 50's for surrounds. It sounds really good without costing too much.

When you have more money, your next upgrade should be to a receiver with pre-outs such as the Pioneer VSX-1120. Take your time and only spend what you can afford.

thank you guys for enlightening me...

xcapri it says the pioneer vsx 1120 comes with "9.1" pre-amp output and the vsx 920 (mine) with a "0.1".... what does that mean?

.1 = subwoofer; technically the subwoofer outputs on receivers are pre-outs so you'll always at least get the .1 :)

Thank you Praz.... I think i got it now, and for the money I can spend, the size of my room and the little I know about audio, I'll go with the M60s (if I can find'em)

Right now I dont have HT and what I use to listen to music is the logitech X230, so I think the pioneer and a pair of M60s should be a nice upgrade LOL

    Sad but true

Those Monitor 60s / 70s on newegg look like great bang for the buck. I wonder why the RTi/a series are designed to be less efficient? Or is that another discussion altogether :)

Those Rti10s would open the door to audio growth and expansion. Go for the 10s and enjoy.

Efficiency has to do with loudness at a fixed power input. It does not equate to "better" or tell you anything about the tonal qualities of a speaker. Many people enjoy less efficient speakers and many lower efficiency speakers are quite expensive. Basically, you should ignore this spec when evaluating most any speakers currently on the market. Either the Monitor or RTi series would work fine for the OP.

Okay - thanks for the clarification. Yeah, I wasn't really insinuating sound quality was good/bad. But looks like the necessity to add external amplification is probably impacted right. Otherwise, I agree - either series would do well.

Definitely go the 10's. They will perform fairly well with your current receiver and as other have said, will open up tremendously once you provide better amplification.

The Monitors are good speakers and are designed to run well on lower powered amps/ receivers but even with better amplification, they will only go so far performance-wise.

In the long run, I think you'll be happier with the 10's.

I went from the 60's to the Rti8's and they do sound much better. If you can get the 10's you'll be glad you did.

Im running a VSX-920 in my HT and Ive had no problems driving a full 7.1 setup. As far as sound quality goes its done a fine job, unless you plan on pushing something less efficent with it you should be ok. By less efficent I mean something like my big Infinity QLS1s witch take alot of power. Mostly what your looking at should sound fine.

    hello

i changed my mind.... i almost bought the vsx 920 but for $400 i can get the vsx 1020.... still 0.1 preamp output

I really want to get myself a HT but if i get the 10's and this receiver its nearly $1000 and well... i would have to wait months until i can invest on the rest....

i dont know what to do :(

PD.... did i mention my room is like 15x11? if i go with the 10's, wouldnt be too much for my so small room?

If you shop around, you can find the RTi10's for less. Or you can even opt for the RTi8's - they can be found for around $250-$300 and aren't as power hungry as the 10's.

There's also a CSi5 in the Flea Market for $200 shipped, I believe...

Since you have a small room and will have to order online, why not just go with the RTi6? You won't get the same kind of output as with the RTi8's or 10's but given your room size, the smaller 6's will probably sound best. Two pairs of RTi6s and the CSi5 center would make for an excellent system. Others can better recommend a good sub.
