NAD C325, Onkyo pre, and Monitor 5 problems?

1. I've had this unit (NAD C325) for a couple of months now. Bought it used on audiogon...while I was abroad. Had a friend check it out--he couldn't get it to work.
Another friend who owned a NAD tried it out. It was fine. It's been OK since then...but it's always been a little QUIRKY. Meaning it's VERY temperamental about wiring, and it DISTORTS, cuts out when you push the volume past 4/10s or so. More quickly when the soft-clipping is engaged and less when it is off.
The BETTER the speakers the worse the distortion is as you hit more than a 1/3 volume. In fact, it sounds BEST on a cheap pair of Sony bookshelves--if you can believe that. And went nuts when I hooked up a pair of Energy books at pretty moderate to low volume.
Input doesn't matter. I checked all the cables and connections and switched everything out more than once.
I did notice some corrosion on terminals and RCA jacks..not much but some.
Is it possible that Deoxit would fix this problem or do I have something MORE serious on my hands here.
Concerning Deoxit--should I use that on the speaker terminals also?
And when you use this on RCA ins....do you only spray the outside or also the entry into the RCA jack? I'm afraid spraying into the unit might affect some internal circuits?
Thanks.
2. I've been having problems with a number of other things I purchased. An Onkyo Pre-amp is also distorting (from the RCA pre-outs)...but when I twist the RCA I/Cs it goes away for a bit...then returns? Deoxit again...or service?
3. And finally, I have a rip in what seems to be a new rubber surround on a Monitor 5 mid-driver that seems fixable. I just don't know how? (A question...on Monitors should pushing in the mid-driver lead to a delay in them returning to the original position or do they respond instantaneously to the in and out of the passive--I only have experience with SDAs?)
The rip was probably caused by someone tightening the speaker screw before the glue set and tearing the surround at that spot. Seems to me some kind of silicon might mend it since the entire surround is there and it is new? What do you guys suggest? I'm not much of a handy man.
Back to the NAD. If I need that serviced? Where? I'm in New England three hours from Boston (North)?
