Carver Platinum Amazings

gonna try this again.

as of Polkfest, my AR9's won a close battle as to which speaker will rule in my 2 channel system. It was close, and to a certain degree there are many things about the plats I like better than the AR9's.........but the AR9's stay.

I am selling the Carver Platinum Amazings. they are fully functional, except for the one blown woofer, but I have the replacement and a spare for install, an easy fix. While they are not the cleanest/pristine in terms of appearance, both ribbons function perfectly.

they dont have covers (they need new cloth) I have the cover shells though.

audiogon scale, I wanna say 6 out of 10 or so.

600.00 even takes them.

will give this a couple days then of to ebay.

check the Polkfest 2010 pics for pics of these, they were rockin Polkfest for both nights.

An excellent price for these. We all had a chance to hear them and they can put out wall-to-wall sound (and then some) off that Carver amp. For you Carver Aficionados...a must. Just remember you'll need some POWER for these!

Having said that. The AR9s were definitely old-school but awesome!

Good luck with the sale, Lou.

Great speakers and hate to let them go Lou, but putting in 16 new windows, having the floors re-done and refiancing the house has got me tapped :(

I think you can hold off on a couple of the windows on the back of the house for a while. :p

And were these those massive speakers with the 4-12" woofers?

Totowa, about 105 miles or so from you b-comet. I know because I made the trip from Throop to Totowa on the first day of the Fest.

Heck you've got space in that basement room. The SDAs might like some company?

What are the dimensions of the speakers. Are they bigger or smaller than my SRS 1.2tl's. What is the best way to transport. Are they heavy? They are peaking my interest. CNH I doubt if they would fit in my incredibly crowded family room of speakers but I have somewhere else they may work. Maybe a road trip is in order. How do these compare to maggies.

67" tall. 33" wide at the top, 36" wide at the bottom. They are not deep at all, perhaps 10 or 12 inches at the base, but if you can't bring them out another 3 feet from the front wall (at LEAST 3 feet, more like 5) you'll never know what they can do. 110lbs each, transport CAN be tricky.

No disrespect to Lou, but those things were in the wrong room, sounded squashed to ****, didn't have near enough room to propagate some real low end, and everybody still loved them.

Are these 4ohm or 8ohm. I am not real familiar with these speakers. I saw on ebay mark 4 platinums awhile back. Are these the same type of speakers. Are there different versions of platinum amazings.

8 ohms for these. Different versions of Amazing's (Platinum is one), and then different versions of Platinum's. These for sale are the Platinum Mk.IV I believe. The more desirable in my opinion.

When you transport them make sure that you have nothing that is able to hit the ribbons. That is normally your biggest concern as the ribbons are not fun to replace or cheap.

I have the original boxes for my Silvers, and the way they are stored is facedown wrapped in plastic and the edges sit in foam so that nothing is touching the ribbons. You could try to do something similar in the back of a car, you just have to think about how wide they are if you lay them down.

I want these, but personal situations make it so I cannot at this time. If they are still around in about a year, I will take them off your hands. I am in the process of moving out of my house, into an apartment for a temporary situation, and then eventually (Sooner rather than later) back into a house. Obviously, these would take up almost an entire room in the small apartment, and the wife approval factor is an issue with no extra room :) Hopefully they'll stay around a while :) If not, best of luck!

So who is going to make their move here?

I do think that George Grand had a good point above...these speakers really do need more 'breathing' space than they had. So think BIG-ger room.
