Hey everyone.

Im picking up a pair of the original SRS's tonight from a recording engineer. He's asking $1k
  • one owner
  • used for about 300 hours TOTAL since '85
  • no frozen or malfunctioning drivers
  • still great seal on cabinet
  • all literature and interconnect
  • are in MINT condition. i went over it with a fine toothed comb
  • no mods
  • no upgrades
is that a fair price for these he seemed hesitant about dropping the price. and to tell you the truth i dont want to rip the guy off either. i know lot of people dont see it that way, but i dont want to be unreasonable if hes already giving me a better than fair deal here.

on the other hand, if its an average price, i have no qualms with trying to bring it down a little! ;)

a bit high to me, not unreasonable, but see if he'll take off the top for ya. i never overpay for speakers.. there are lots of them out there. but they may not all be close to you.

see if you can hear them then decide if they are worth that to you.

Seems a fair price to me, but as always, cheaper is better. I would show 750 cash and have the rest in my pocket. I think 750 will be enough to take them and give you a bit for upgrades.

I recently paid $850 for a pair of SRS's that need some work. Some of the drivers have small rips in them, but luckily I've already found a set of 15tls (for $50!) to replace all of the drivers that I need. Maybe I should have haggled harder, but I'm happy to have them in my livingroom...

If you go too low, he might say no. And if you walk, it will probably take you a long time to find as nice a pair, close to you, with the interconnect cable, etc.

Buy them and enjoy. It's only money. (But, if you can get them for $800 or $900, all the better. :D )

For a set in mint condition a fellow would be a fool not to buy them IMHO sure you might get a beat up pair for 700-800 but you will spend more than 200 getting them fixed.

Best 1k you will ever spend ;)

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

If they are mint and you are convinced the seller is the original owner, it seems like you aren't even paying a premium for them. Nice find.

I bought my original SDA SRS's, in 8/10 condition (had to refinish the wood on the top of one of the speakers) for $1000 about a year ago from a forum member (Hamatym).

If they are mint, that price is more than fair.

    thanks guys!
so I ended up getting them for $850! And I didnt even haggle. when i showed up he took $150 off without me asking because initially he was going to move them in his van but it was in the mechanics and so I borrowed a truck. Also he was going to help get them in my house but I had my cousin help me.

One thing i noticed is that the endcaps arent sealed or stained. they just appear to be a natural finish, or perhaps the oil rubbed finish? what kind of care should be taken with these?
