BEST Speakers combo for ONKYO SR608

I've purchased an Onkyo SR608, now worried about to find the best combo ( 5.1 or 7.1)
I often listen to FM played from the Receiver itself and play music/movies from laptop.
Last week I bought a pair of tsi400 everything sound ok, but the loudness was low, somewhat like car stereos.
My dealer was kind enough to Replace with tsi500, it was loud enough, but the midrange was not satisfactory.
I am also using CS10 , Tsi 100 and DSW pro 500 for Center, Rear and sub of the remaining 5.1 set.
Now I am thinking of RTI A5, will it fair better than Tsi 500? If Yes, Do I need to upgrade the entire Tsi 5.1 setup?
Any Help will be highly appreciated

WELCOME TO CLUB POLK!
The TSI-400s not LOUD enough on an Onkyo 600 series? That's strange. You do know that you can adjust speaker levels....right? And use the Audyssey set-up? You can also tweak equalization curves for the 500s?
Logically...the 400s require less power and you say the 500s which need more were 'louder'.
Midrange on the 500s is affected some by speaker placement. Move the speakers around a bit till you get the desired sound.
The Rtis will have a more defined high end. But Rti-A5s do not pair up well with an Onkyo.
If you do decide to go with Rtis (listen first). All you really need to match is the FRONT stage L/C/R speakers. You can keep everything else Tsi and won't hear much of a difference.

We need some additional information like room size, layout ect. I am running Monitor 60's with a Integra (high end Onkyo) DRT 5.9 and a 125x5 watt external amp and they can go crazy loud.
Even without the external amp the reciever (90x7) can drive them to levels where my neighbors at the end of the building come running down to yell at me. I would check to make sure your not in a null when your listening and also try moving them farther apart, together, closer to the wall, etc.
However if you give us your room measurements that will help us immensely."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
Thanks for the input guys, Now There is a little improvement in mid-range after calibrating. (strange some of the deep low freequency which was heard earlier now gone).
I even tried to bi-amp with the 500 from the front-hi output connection (Onk SR608), no difference at all..
In this agony.. Overall I am impressed with the Amp it has so much to deliver, but the speakers are shying away with it. -
I have an Onkyo 607.
Run the Audysey setup and use a 5.1 setup. I tried 7.1, and noticed very little difference. I couldn't justtify the added $400 I spent on side surrounds so I returned them back and I'm sticking with 5.1.
I have the Rti line of Polk's and my midrange is awesome. Make sure to set the rear speakers to "side" when doing the Audysey setup. That's the mistake I made the first time I ran it. Also, you should adjust the gain a bit on the rears.~Dan

Hi all,
After much of RND, Did a bass and treble test recently on tsi 500 recently using a wave file played through laptop. Finally I am switching back to tsi 400 pair(for front), However I have upgraded to tsi 200 pair (for rear), CS 20 (Center) and the same sub DSW pro 500 for my onlyo..
Detail of Final setup
Old > New
tsi 500 > tsi 400
tsi 100 > tsi 200
cs 10 > cs 20
while the sub remains the same Dswpro 500.
All the new setup will be ready in few weeks time. -

I don't think it's that crazy depending on his actual room. I've heard dramatic changes in midrange response when going with a smaller loudspeaker. The room can often boost and cause some undesirable sweeps if the room is being overloaded. This can be tamed with some simple room treatments or by rolling in a different speaker.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -

Other than the other suggestions, brand new speakers need to break in!Political Correctness'.........defined
